Growing Zones
For a perennial plant that evolves throughout the seasons, the Northern Exposure Sienna Coral Bells is a perfect addition to any landscape. Not only does it provide a pop of color throughout the year, the color changes with the season. It begins in the Spring as a welcoming bright green, and gradually changes to orange and red by Autumn. During the summer, bright pink stems emerge to introduce pink bell flowers.
This perennial is hardy in zones four through nine. It’s a low maintenance option for those wishing to add evolving texture to their landscape, and won’t be tampered with outside of the fence. This plant is deer resistant, and it attracts both butterflies and hummingbirds. This plant is drought tolerant, making it a great addition to landscapes or containers with variable weather patterns.
Northern Exposure Sienna Coral Bells Care
These coral bells will survive in full sun, partial sun, and partial shade. It can be planted in the early spring, before most tender plants. While it is drought tolerant, this plant also welcomes moist, well drained soil. It’s better to leave this plant more dry, rather than wet, so only water if it’s not rained for several days. It’s not necessary to fertilize, but a layer of compost or mulch can be added each spring to reintroduce some nutrients.
Pruning the Northern Exposure Sienna Coral Bells can be done in early spring, before new foliage begins to emerge. Deadheading is not necessary to encourage new blooms.
Northern Exposure Sienna Coral Bells Spacing
This perennial works wonderfully as ground cover. It typically reaches one to two feet in height (with blooms). It’s a mounding plant, and will continue to grow, so these perennials should be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart.
