Northern Exposure™ Silver Coral Bells has glorious evergreen foliage that is super hardy and low maintenance. Also known as Heuchera Northern Exposure™ Silver, this perennial has ruffly burgundy foliage, frosted with silver and decorated with dark purple veins. It sends up tall sprays of pink bell-shaped flowers in spring that continue to summer. It forms a tidy, dense mound that compliments practically any plant combination.
These coral bells have a low, rounded shape that reaches 12 – 15 inches high. The foliage is more rust resistant and hardy than other varieties. It exhibits exceptional cold hardiness to zone 3 and increased sun tolerance. With its outstanding color, Northern Exposure™ is lovely when planted in groups at the front of a perennial bed or when spaced along a woodland path. It also is a sophisticated choice for the "filler" or “thriller” in outdoor container combinations.
Northern Exposure™ Silver Coral Bells Care
Coral Bells grow well in full sun or part shade, although afternoon shade is appreciated in hot climates. The key is that the soil should be evenly moist with good drainage. They do best in soil with a neutral to alkaline pH. Apply a thick layer of compost around the base of the plant to protect it from winter heaving.
Remove any dried leaves from the bottom layer in spring. Divide plants every 3 years, being careful not to bury the crowns.
Northern Exposure™ Silver Coral Bells Spacing
When planting these in groups, space each plant approximately 15 inches apart on center. For container plantings, use a pot at least 15 inches in diameter with excellent drainage.
