Up close, the long-blooming fluorescent rose-pink flowers on Opening Act Ultrapink Phlox will be stunning. From a distance, they'll appear lighter in color and not command attention away from the rest of your garden. This perennial begins flowering in early summer and continues to rebloom all summer long. Grow this perennial phlox in USDA hardiness zones 4 to 8 in full to part sun conditions. At maturity, Opening Act Ultrapink Phlox will grow 22 to 28 inches tall with a 32-to-36-inch spread.
This plant’s dark green, glossy foliage is mildew and disease resistant. The fragrant flowers of this North American native plant attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. They also make gorgeous cut flowers to add to a floral display in your home. Include Opening Act Ultrapink Phlox in mass plantings and border gardens, and along walkways, patios, and decks where you can take in its scent. Its upright habit will take on the thriller role in a container garden.
Opening Act Ultrapink Phlox Care
This easy to grow perennial will grow in soil with a pH within normal garden ranges. It has average watering and soil fertility requirements. It will perform best in moist, well-drained soil and full sun. Fertilize in the spring with a balanced fertilizer or top dress with compost.
Deadheading is not necessary for continuous bloom, but you can cut the plant back by a third in early summer if you want to delay the bloom period in exchange for a bushier plant. Cut the stems back to the ground after your first killing frost. Discard the foliage if there is any sign of powdery mildew on it.
Opening Act Ultrapink Phlox Spacing
Space this medium height phlox 32 to 36 inches apart. Even though it is mildew resistant, it’s best not to crowd this plant. Room for good air circulation helps reduce the threat of a mildew infection.
