The Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle is a lovely vining plant that gives off a tropical vibe but is hardy even in climates with chilly winters. Honeysuckle, or Lonicaera periclymenum plants, have gorgeous two-lipped tubular flowers with prominent stamens that grow in clusters. The Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle have fragrant blooms in pinkish-white shades. This beauty blooms from May through July. The ovate-shaped foliage grows on long vines that feature pairs of leaves appearing on opposite sides of the stems.
This plant is a natural climber with a twining vine form which means the vine will wrap itself around a structure as it grows to securely hold onto a trellis, arbor, or anything within reach. Feature this Honeysuckle in a bed, mass planting, or border but provide support so the vines can climb. The fragrant flowers are a favorite food source for butterflies and hummingbirds. This deciduous plant grows as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8, and it is drought-resistant, cold-resistant, and tolerates poor soil, making it a very easy plant to maintain.
Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle Care
Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle can handle less than ideal conditions, but this plant is a vigorous grower when given proper care. Dappled sunlight is best, but this plant can live in full sun to partial shade. For best results, the roots will have shade, and the vines will have more direct light. Newly planted Honeysuckle requires consistent water. Apply mulch around the base of the plant to keep the soil damp. Established plants are drought-tolerant but will benefit from being watered during an extended dry period. Soil should be rich and moist but well-drained.
Apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer in the spring to support intense flower production. Remove dead and damaged branches throughout the growing season, but save pruning and shaping until after the bloom cycle is complete. Cutting the plant back by one-third will encourage more growth and more blooms the following spring.
Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle Spacing
The Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle is a vining shrub that will grow 5 to 6 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. Plants can be spaced 3 to 5 feet apart to create a wall of flowers and greenery. Give the plants a trellis or support or plant near a structure the vines can climb.
