With the Perpetua® Blueberry, you not only get beautiful deep green foliage but delicious, antioxidant-rich blueberries you can use for baking, smoothies, and healthy fruit salads. This evergreen plant will offer you two crops of small, tasty berries that grow after the spring bloom in midsummer and again during fall. You can harvest your blueberries between June and August. If you want to can your blueberries, be sure to do so in a boiling water bath canner or pressure canner. You should prune your plant in early springtime to get rid of any damaged and non-fruiting branches.
Perpetua® Blueberry Plant Care
You should aim to plant your Perpetua® Blueberry plant either in the middle of October or in early spring when freeze danger is no longer a concern. Plant it in an area with partial or full sun and use well-draining acidic soil with a pH ranging from 4.5 to 5.5. Dig a hole that is about twice the size of your plant’s root and pat the soil down gently after burying it to eliminate any air pockets. You can add about a 3-inch layer of mulch to prevent weeds from growing and to ensure the soil remains moist. Allow for 4 feet of space between each plant.
Growing Perpetua® Blueberry Plants
You can get tasty blueberries within your first year with an adequate amount of sunlight. Upon reaching maturity, your plant will be 4 to 5 feet tall.
Growing Perpetua® Blueberry Plants in Containers
If planting in a pot, make sure the pot you use is twice the size of your plant’s root ball. It must also have holes that allow for easy drainage so excess water can escape the soil effortlessly. Furthermore, you should leave at least an inch of empty space from the top of the soil to the pot’s rim.
Watering Perpetua® Blueberry Bushes
Water your plant once per week. Mulching will also help your soil stay moist.
Feeding Perpetua® Blueberry Bushes
You can use an acidic fertilizer like the ones that are typically used for azaleas. The best time to fertilize your plant is in early spring. You can use one cup of fertilizer per foot of branch spread to grow strong, tasty blueberries.
