This blueberry produces lovely bright pink colored blueberries instead of the traditional blue colored ones. The medium-sized pink berries are just as tasty as the blue ones and are perfect for baking and eating fresh off the plant. This shrub produces pretty, pinkish-white bell-shaped blossoms in the spring. The leaves on this deciduous shrub turn bright orange that fades to deep red in the fall. Unlike most blueberry varieties, the berries on pink lemonade ripen throughout the summer months.

Plant Vaccinium x 'Pink Lemonade' in mixed shrub and perennial borders, to create low hedges or as a container plant. The blueberry is a rabbiteye or compact variety. This shrub is self-fertile, but you’ll have a more abundant harvest if you plant a second one or even another rabbiteye variety of blueberry in your garden.

Pink Lemonade Blueberry Care

Plant Pink Lemonade Blueberry in full sun or partial shade conditions in acidic or sandy soil. It’s hardy in USDA zones 4 to 8. At maturity, the height and width will be between 4 and 5 feet. Prune winter-damaged or crossed branches in late spring. The flowers attract butterflies and bees and you’ll need to cover the fruit to prevent hungry birds from eating the berries before you get an opportunity to harvest the ripe ones.

Pink Lemonade Blueberry Spacing

The cultivar ‘Pink Lemonade’ was developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the 1970s but has recently grown in popularity as people are looking for more diversity in their landscapes. Space individual plants 4 to 5 feet apart.
