The Pocomoke Dwarf Crepe Myrtle or Lagerstroemia 'Pocomoke' is a low-maintenance beauty that boasts showy flowers. Frilly, rosy-pink flowers bloom in clusters, creating an impressive display. Admire the lovely flowers from July to September. Glossy foliage emerges in a coppery bronze hue in the spring and turns green by summer. The oval leaves transition once more to orange with hints of red by fall.
Use Pocomoke to create a beautiful hedge or border around a walkway or patio. Alternatively, line a foundation wall, or add color to a mixed bed with this dwarf shrub. The Pocomoke Dwarf Crepe Myrtle also makes an absolutely lovely mass planting. This disease-resistant cultivar requires little care once established, making it a good choice for laidback or hands-off gardeners. Grow this Crepe Myrtle in zones 6 through 9.
Pocomoke Dwarf Crepe Myrtle Care
Plant Pocomoke Dwarf Crepe Myrtle in a protected area that receives full sun. Water consistently, especially during a dry period. This shrub can comfortably live in average soil. Avoid overly fertile soil because it will cause leaf growth at the expense of flowers. The soil should be moist and well drained. Apply a slow-release fertilizer for flowering shrubs in the spring.
Flowers bloom on new wood, so give the shrub a rejuvenating trim in the spring to encourage full, branched growth and more potential for blooms. Protect the roots from chilly winter temperatures with a thick layer of organic mulch applied by fall.
Pocomoke Dwarf Crepe Myrtle Spacing
Pocomoke Dwarf Crepe Myrtle reaches 2 to 5 feet tall and wide. Space shrubs 3 feet apart when creating a continuous hedge.
