Potluck Guava Glow Bulb Mix turns summer planting into a warm sweep of gold, blush, and pink. This spring-planted collection includes 15 April Gold gladioli, 3 Blushing Lady calla lilies, 3 Patriot dahlias, and 3 Pink Perception dahlias for a layered display from midsummer into frost. You get upright spikes, sculptural calla blooms, and full dahlia flowers in one coordinated mix. We’d plant this where bouquets are easy to cut, because the different stem shapes make arranging much more interesting.

The gladioli give the planting height first, with yellow flower spikes that fit naturally behind the callas and dahlias. Blushing Lady calla lilies add smooth, trumpet-shaped blooms and speckled foliage, which keeps the planting attractive between flower flushes. Patriot and Pink Perception dahlias carry the mix later in the season with bigger, layered flowers that keep the color going after many early summer plants slow down. Plant this mix in a sunny cutting bed, along a fence line, or in large patio planters where the taller gladioli can stand behind the rounder dahlia growth.

Potluck Guava Glow Bulb Mix Care

Plant Potluck Guava Glow Bulb Mix in full sun, with light afternoon shade acceptable in very hot climates. Use fertile, well-drained soil with steady moisture and a slightly acidic to neutral pH, around 6.0 to 7.0. Wait until spring soil has warmed and frost is past, since callas and dahlias resent cold, wet soil at planting.

Water lightly after planting if the soil is dry, then hold back on heavy watering until new shoots begin to show. Once growth is active, give the planting a deep soak when the top few inches of soil dry, paying closer attention to containers because they dry faster than garden beds. Dahlias prefer a low-nitrogen fertilizer after growth begins, while callas and gladioli respond well to moderate feeding during stem and bud development.

Mulch lightly after the plants are growing to reduce soil splash and keep roots cooler, but leave open space around dahlia crowns and calla stems. In zones colder than 8, lift dahlias, callas, and gladiolus corms in fall after frost or foliage decline Dry the bulbs and store them in a cool, dry, frost-free place. Gardeners in warm zones can leave them planted if drainage is good.

Cut gladiolus stems when the lowest flowers begin to open, and harvest dahlias when blooms are mostly open but still firm. Deadhead dahlias often to keep new buds forming, and remove spent calla flowers at the base of the stem. Pinch young dahlia shoots above a low leaf set to promote branching, and stake dahlias or gladioli early in windy sites rather than waiting until flower stems are heavy.

Potluck Guava Glow Bulb Mix Spacing

Plant April Gold gladioli 4 to 6 inches deep and 4 to 6 inches apart, Blushing Lady calla lilies 2 to 4 inches deep and about 12 inches apart, and dahlias 3 to 6 inches deep with 18 to 24 inches between plants. For containers, use a large pot at least 18 to 20 inches wide for one dahlia with callas near the edge, or use a long planter for several gladioli with support tucked in at planting. Containers need drainage holes, a quality potting mix, and steadier watering once summer heat arrives.

Companion Planting

For containers, pair the callas with lantana and sweet potato vines, since both handle summer heat and help cover the lower pot without crowding the taller flowers. In the landscape, salvia is a strong partner because its upright flower spikes echo the gladioli while offering a cooler color contrast for the pink and yellow blooms. Butterfly bush also works nearby in sunny borders, giving summer blue-to-purple flowers and a shrubby frame as the dahlias reach their peak.

Potluck Guava Glow Bulb Mix FAQs

1. What is this mix?

It’s a curated set of flowering bulbs: April Gold Gladioli, Blushing Lady Calla Lilies, Patriot Dahlias, and Pink Perception Dahlias, chosen to bloom in succession and create a rich summer display.

2. Where can I grow these bulbs?

They prefer well-draining soil and full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Plant in garden beds, borders, or large containers. In small spaces you can also grow them in deep pots placed by a sunny window or on a patio.

3. Do these bulbs attract pollinators?

Yes, the blooms are attractive to bees and butterflies and will help support local pollinator activity.

4. When will they bloom?

Depending on your climate and planting time, expect blooms from mid-summer and continuing until the first hard frost.

5. How do I store bulbs for winter?

In USDA zones below 8, dig up tender bulbs after the foliage dies back in late fall. Let them dry, brush off excess soil, then store in a cool, dark, dry place (basement, garage, or similar) until spring.
