Hands down, panicle hydrangeas are a favorite of gardeners all over the world due to their graceful and elegant look. Quick Fire® Hydrangea Tree has all of the best qualities of a panicle hydrangea, but in a different package. The tree form is just as cold hardy as the shrub type and shares the same stunningly shaded flowers that Quick Fire® is known for. Early in the summer, the loosely shaped panicle flowerheads emerge white and age into shades of pink and red that last for months on the tree.

Tree-form hydrangeas are ideal for growing in spaces too small for a full-size tree but in need of a strong vertical element. Use several Quick Fire® Hydrangea Trees to make an impressive display along the back of a garden border or next to a walkway or driveway. Plant this hydrangea tree in a large planter to lend an elegant touch to an entryway, deck, or patio. Various shallow-rooted perennials, annuals, or bulbs can be interplanted for an ever-changing seasonal color display.

Quick Fire® Hydrangea Tree Care

Hydrangea trees are versatile and grow well in locations with full to partial sun. Well-draining, fertile, loamy soil is ideal. This hydrangea is not picky about soil pH as flower color is not affected by acidic or alkaline soils. Provide consistent watering to support the best blooms. Mulching with an organic material such as compost or finely shredded arborist chips will help retain moisture and suppress any annual weeds.

Prune Quick Fire® Hydrangea Tree early in the spring to help the canopy retain a compact shape. Prune the stems back by no more than half by snipping just above a set of leaf buds. This removes leggy growth from the previous season while encouraging dense, bushy growth. Deadheading is rarely needed. Hydrangeas are infamous for holding onto their attractive flowers through the winter after they have dried on the shrub.

Quick Fire® Hydrangea Tree Spacing

Hydrangea Trees typically reach a mature height and spread of 6-8 feet. The height of the canopy (~36 inches) leaves plenty of space for planting lower-growing shrubs and perennials nearby. To pot this tree, use a heavy-bottomed container with at least a 10-gallon capacity and/or a 20-inch diameter opening to counteract heavy top growth.
