Reaching 6 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, this stately shrub can form a dramatic focal point or an attractive multi-stemmed tree. Its spicy-sweet aroma will fill the yard on mild spring days, and the sturdy stems support the blooms for extended viewing. By late season, its green foliage shifts to fiery orange-red tones, prolonging your garden’s appeal into autumn.

Water regularly, especially during the first growing season, and feed with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring for robust growth. In regions prone to harsh winters, a little mulch helps protect the root zone.

Prune after flowering if you need to shape or manage size, as it sets buds on old wood. Container-grown specimens thrive in large pots with adequate drainage and a high-quality potting mix.
