Summer Serenade Lavender starts flowering earlier than many English lavenders with true lavender-blue spikes before summer is in full swing. It forms a neat, silvery mound about 16–20 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide, with a clean outline that looks tidy even when it isn’t in bloom. Compared with a lot of lavenders that bloom once and quit, this one keeps a longer run into late summer when you keep up with flower removal. We recommend growing it where you’ll brush by, because the foliage and blooms carry that classic herbal fragrance you notice immediately.
This Lavandula angustifolia '37289' is a semi-evergreen English lavender that’s valued for strong scent, drought tolerance once established, and reliable garden performance in zones 5–9. The silvery leaves brighten hot, sunny beds and the flower spikes are useful for cutting and drying without losing the fragrance. Use it to edge a sunny walkway, repeat it in a low drift to define a bed line, or tuck it into a patio container where the scent can do its job. Deer mostly avoid lavender, and the flowers draw bees and butterflies steadily during bloom.
Summer Serenade Lavender Care
Plant in full sun for best flowering and the tightest, healthiest growth. Choose well-drained soil that can be sandy or gravelly, with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH around 6.5–8.0. Avoid heavy, wet clay or any spot where water lingers after rain.
Water during the first growing season when the top layer of soil dries out. Once the plant settles in, it will need little supplemental watering; if the foliage looks soft or dull instead of firm and silvery, it’s usually staying too wet. Lavender needs very little fertilizer, and richer feeding can reduce bloom and fragrance. A light spring application is only helpful if plants are recovering from winter stress. In winter Summer Serenade often keeps some foliage, but the top can show cold or wind burn, especially if the soil stays damp.
After the main flush, snip off spent flower stems to encourage continued blooming into late summer. Prune once in spring after you see fresh green growth, shaping lightly and staying above the woody stems so it regrows evenly. For colder sites, keep mulch away from the crown and focus on drainage rather than “blanketing” the plant.
Summer Serenade Lavender Spacing
Space plants 18–24 inches apart so air moves through the foliage and stems stay dry. In containers, use a 14–16 inch pot and a fast-draining mix, and let the container dry slightly between soakings. In the garden, pair it with sea thrift and sedum for a low-water planting that keeps structure when flowers pause. For patio pots, combine it with vinca and bacopa for trailing color beneath the lavender while it carries the fragrance and vertical bloom.
