The Tri-Color Dappled Willow Tree stands out for its blush-pink spring growth that settles into a clean mix of white, green, and soft pink leaves. Tri-Color Dappled Willow Tree brings color to the yard without relying on flowers, and it stays a manageable 7–10 feet tall in most landscapes. This plant is trained into a small standard so the color sits up where you can see it. We recommend it when you want one plant to brighten a wet corner, a rain-garden edge, or a front-bed focal point.
Salix integra 'Hakuro-nishiki' is a fast-growing deciduous willow that appreciates moisture while it establishes. The foliage is strongest in sun, and the bare stems add winter interest as they color up red after leaf drop. Set it where the fine texture can contrast with broader leaves or darker backgrounds, like beside a patio entry or near a water feature. It also works as a repeating accent down a drive, as long as you keep it away from underground utilities and hardscape where willow roots can roam.
Tri-Color Dappled Willow Tree Care
Give Tri-Color Dappled Willow full sun to part sun for best leaf color, with a minimum of about 6 hours of direct light when possible. Plant in consistently moist, well-drained soil, although it will also handle heavier soils if you improve them with organic matter. A soil pH from 6.0 to 8.0 is suitable.
Water deeply when the top few inches start to dry, and pay attention to new leaves wilting as a cue it needs a longer soak. Feed once in early spring with a slow-release tree and shrub fertilizer. In fall it drops its leaves, which is normal for this deciduous tree form.
Prune in late winter to very early spring to keep the canopy dense and to trigger fresh, colorful new growth. For a tighter “lollipop,” lightly shear the outer tips during summer, and remove any shoots that pop from the trunk. If it gets too thick, thin a few older stems from the crown rather than cutting everything to the same length.
Tri-Color Dappled Willow Tree Spacing
Space trees about 6 feet apart (more if you want each canopy to stay distinct), and plan for the crown to widen as it matures. For containers, start with a pot roughly 20–24 inches wide with drainage and a moisture-holding potting mix. In the landscape, try pairing Tri-Color Dappled Willow with ferns and astilbe to help shade the root zone and hold moisture. For a contrasting shrub backdrop, azaleas and rhododendron make the foliage look even cleaner. In containers, underplant with alyssum for a low, tidy edge while the willow provides height.
