Another one of Peter Ping Lim’s finest cultivars from the Altman Plants’ True Bloom series, True Gratitude Climbing Rose is a versatile, large-flowered climber. It can be trained to scramble up a trellis, fence, or wall or pruned to maintain a traditional shrub-like form. Among this rose series, True Gratitude distinguishes itself with 3 to 4-inch, high-centered blooms made up of petals in pretty pink shades of bubblegum, fiery rose, and fuchsia. Along with its shiny, basil green foliage, True Gratitude Climbing Rose is not a flower to be ignored. This award winner, otherwise known as Rosa ‘LIMkiss’ PP#28,929 and 'Flying Kiss', blooms from spring until autumn and emits a perfume touched with notes of spice.
True Gratitude Climbing Rose is an optimum choice for adding color and height to a landscape, patio, or deck. This rose has an upright growth habit and reaches a height of 5 to 6 feet and spread of 3 to 4 feet. It was cultivated in the United States from genetic lines that trace their heritages back to Europe and Asia. Like its family members, it’s easy to grow and highly disease resistant. With its low-maintenance routine, it poses minimal problems to those new to gardening.
True Gratitude Climbing Rose Care
Start True Gratitude Climbing Rose off on the right track by planting it in a location that gets at least 6 hours of full sun. It prefers soil that is rich, moist, and well draining. Aim for a slightly acidic pH of 6.0 to 6.5. If the soil is not acidic enough, amend with peat moss / coco coir. During the blooming season, feed True Gratitude with a fertilizer formulated for roses every two weeks. Having average watering needs, this cultivar requires at least one inch of water weekly to thrive.
Prune this rose in late winter or early spring by removing any dead, damaged, crossing and diseased stems. Cut back the remaining canes by a third, and shape to encourage horizontal growth. Deadhead spent blooms throughout the flowering season.
True Gratitude Climbing Rose Spacing
True Gratitude Climbing Rose will add color and height to any empty or dull space. Space plants two to three feet apart. Train this rose to climb up a garden wall, trellis, or fence. Plant with companion plants such as shasta daisies, sweet alyssum, and Russian sage to create mixed garden beds. Combine cut rose stems with alstroemeria, ferns, ivy, lilies, and wax flowers to make light, airy bouquets.
