Unplugged® White Mealycup Sage (Salvia farinacea) shows off crisp white flower spikes framed by felted calyxes, offering a striking contrast to its green leaves. These slender blooms appear from spring through frost, creating a showy focal point in both flowerbeds and containers. Pollinators, including bees and butterflies, are naturally drawn to this constant source of nectar. Its compact size and extended flowering period make it a dependable choice for any sunny or partially shaded spot.
Beyond the clean white color, Unplugged® White is favored for its tolerance of heat and moderate drought once established. Deer typically skip over this annual sage, and minimal upkeep is required to keep it looking tidy. Bred from a native species, it adapts well to challenging conditions, especially in warmer regions. Its versatility shines in borders, mass plantings, or container designs.
Unplugged® White Mealycup Sage Care
Plant in well-drained soil with a pH near neutral, offering full to partial sun for best results. Water regularly during the first few weeks; afterward, moderate watering is typically enough. A light feeding with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer each month encourages ongoing blooms. Deadheading is not required, but removing faded spikes can keep the overall appearance neat.
Shear lightly if the stems grow taller than desired, which usually promotes fresh branching and continued flowering. Container-grown plants thrive in a top-quality potting mix with consistent watering, especially during hot stretches. Add mulch around garden-grown specimens to help hold moisture in summer and cushion roots in cooler weather. Prune any spent or damaged growth in early spring if you overwinter this sage in a warmer climate.
Unplugged® White Mealycup Sage Spacing
Leave about 12 to 16 inches between each plant when lining garden beds or borders. If grown in a pot or planter, choose one at least 12 inches wide so the roots and foliage have ample room to expand.
