Growing Zones
Visions Chinese Astilbe is a dramatic addition to shady and part-sun gardens. The dark pink flowers bloom in stunning plumes set above the lush green foliage and tidy pyramidal shape. The upright, noble flowers are unrivaled in the dappled-sun garden, and they smell sweet, too! Bees love these sweet flowers, but deer and rabbits will stay away.
Astilbe is a favorite showy plant for the shaded or part-sun garden. It is unrivaled in its lush pyramidal growth and upright plumes of flowers. This Visions variety is unique in its prolific raspberry pink blooms. Like other Astilbe, Visions requires consistently moist soil and at least partial shade. Site it in a garden that receives both and you’ll be rewarded with a long-lived perennial that stuns onlookers year after year.
Visions Astilbe Care
Visions Chinese Astilbe is very easy to care for if it is planted in the right conditions. It will thrive in moist, rich soil with light shade or filtered sun. It will grow happily in full shade, but doesn’t bloom as abundantly. The most important thing to remember when growing Astilbe is that it needs consistently moist soil. Because they require moist soil, this is not a plant recommended for dry, hot climates. When conditions are too dry, the edges of the leaves will develop brown margins and drop. Plant somewhere that is naturally moist and you won’t need to do much to keep it happy.
Fertilize in early spring before it flowers. Wait until early spring to prune back your Astilbe. This will protect it from winter damage, as well as leave a nice texture in your winter garden. If the crown rises above soil level by early spring, just add organic matter around the plant and press the crown gently into the ground. Divide in early spring every 3-4 years to maintain vigor.
Visions Astilbe Spacing
Visions Astilbe has an upright pyramidal habit that grows to about 15”x15” at maturity. They won’t need much space thanks to this tidy habit. 12-15” of space between plants should be just right.
