White Muhly Grass or Muhlenbergia capillaris introduces color and texture into a landscape all year, but this stunning ornamental grass is truly spectacular during the fall. Thin blue-green foliage grows upright and adds height to a landscape through spring and summer. The cloud-like flowers bloom in the fall and have a wispy, billowing appearance. 

Feature this low-maintenance and drought-tolerant grass in a mixed bed, or use it to create a lovely mass planting simply because of its unique good looks. The wispy flowers provide visual interest and texture into the fall while providing a prairie-like atmosphere. This ornamental grass also means business and can be used for erosion control. White Muhly Grass is a native plant that grows in zones 6 through 10.

White Muhly Grass Care

White Muhly Grass has a medium growth rate and grows best in full sun. Plant it in rich, moist soil with good drainage. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Apply a layer of organic compost in the spring for nutritional support.

Trim growth to a few inches above ground level in late winter or early spring. An annual pruning is not mandatory but allows the plant to start fresh each spring.
