The abundant pure white flowers of the Yo Yo Snow in Summer steal the show when they bloom in early summer and blanket the entire surface of this perennial. The trumpet-shaped flowers have notched petals for a subtle and charming detail. The flowers are certainly noteworthy, but the foliage of the Cerastium tomentosum is not to be missed. The delicate silvery leaves are beautiful on their own and are on full display once flowering is complete.

This plant has a spreading growth habit and is a popular ground cover. Feature Yo Yo Snow in Summer plants in garden beds or borders, but be aware that this plant grows relatively quickly and can take over a space. The ideal area will have room for this beauty to spread out. The foliage will create a cascading effect when grown on a retaining wall or in a stone wall. Plant in a container and let the stems drape over the side. This plant grows as a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 7.

Yo Yo Snow in Summer Care

Plant the Yo Yo Snow in Summer in full sun. This beauty needs increased light to thrive, and lots of light reduces the risk of mold or fungus plaguing this plant. Well-drained, slightly acidic soil supports abundant blooms. Water this stunner only when the top few inches of soil are dry. The Yo Yo Snow in Summer would much rather be too dry than too wet. Fertilization isn’t necessary as this plant does very well in poor-quality soil, but applying a fertilizer high in phosphorus can jump-start growth.

Pruning is not necessary and damaged growth can be removed at any time. Divide this plant every few years as soon as blooming is complete.

Yo Yo Snow in Summer Spacing

Yo Yo Snow in Summer is a spreading plant commonly used as a groundcover. This beauty will grow 4 to 6 inches tall and cover an area of 12 to 15 inches. Plants can be spaced 15 inches apart to create a dense, mat-like effect.
