Growing Zones
A long lived grass that will provide year round interest in the garden. 1 to 2 foot tall silver tipped flower spikes emerge from 1 to 2 foot wide tufted clumps of lime-green blades in mid-summer and persist well into winter. Entire plant turns a golden brown in the fall.
This low maintenance, evergreen grass has no obvious insect or disease issues and is drought tolerant once established. Unpalatable to deer and other small herbivores. Winter hardy in zones 5 to 8 this grass would make an excellent low informal hedge, walkway planting, meadow planting, specimen or accent planting. If grown in a pot or container it would be best to plant it in the ground for the winter season and repot it in spring. Alternatively, the pots or containers could be stored indoors for the winter in a cool, but sunny area that is above freezing. Native to eastern and northern Italy to Albania.
Autumn Moor Grass Care
This grass does best in full sun to partial shade in average to fertile soil that is moist but well-drained and prefers a slightly alkaline pH.
No deadheading or pruning is required for this plant. Cut back to a few inches above the ground in late winter to early spring.
Autumn Moor Grass Spacing
Plants should be spaced approximately 8 to 18 inches apart if grown as a mass planting, walkway or pathway planting, meadow planting, or if grown in a pot or container.
