The Bloom-A-Thon Red Azalea by Proven Winners ColorChoice has large red flowers for 5 months of the year! This shrub first blooms in early April, then blooms again in early July. The bush is also semi-evergreen, which means the leaves on the outer edge of the branches last all year, but the leaves in the inner part drop in the winter.

Bloom-A-Thon shrubs still perform in the hottest southern summer days, up to zone 9. The heat resistant shrubs can handle full sunlight and still produce large red flowers from spring until the first hard frost. The plants are also disease resistant and easy to care for.

Plant these in garden containers for 12 months of color. Or you can plant these in gardens or landscaping. We particularly like planting these as an flowering semi-evergreen hedge.

Bloom-A-Thon Red Azalea Care

These shrubs need at least 4 hours of sunlight a day, although the shrubs can handle full sunlight with no shade. Avoid planting these in late fall if you live in zone 7, because the plants need some time to prepare for winter.

All azalea and rhododendron benefit from a layer of mulch around the base of the plant. This helps retain moisture as well as protect the shallow roots from harsh weather conditions. We recommend a layer 2 to 3 inches thick. Do not fertilize after mid-July.

Pruning Bloom-A-Thon Red Azalea is necessary in order for the shrub to re-bloom again in early summer. After the initial flowers start to fade, a light all-over trim is all that is needed. This will encourage new growth and new blooms to form again.

Bloom-A-Thon Red Azalea Spacing

Plant these shrubs 3 - 4 feet apart, center on center. To create a low mounding flowering hedge, you can plant 30-36 inches apart.
