Bloom-A-Thon® Azaleas
Spring Flowers. Then Bloom Again.
Bloom-A-Thon® Azaleas extend the azalea season beyond the traditional spring display. After their first flush, these compact shrubs produce new growth and another round of flowers through summer and fall for repeated color in foundations, borders, mass plantings, and containers.

Azalea Color That Returns After Spring
Traditional azaleas are known for one concentrated spring display. Bloom-A-Thon® Azaleas were selected to flower again, producing a spring flush followed by another long period of blooms through summer and fall. The result is a compact flowering shrub with a much longer season of interest.
Spring + Summer + Fall Flowers
The first flowers open in spring. After that initial display fades, new growth supports another round of blooms that can continue until hard frost.
Compact, Mounded Shrubs
The five varieties range from about 2.5 to 4.5 feet tall, a nice size for foundations, walkways, mixed borders, and large containers.
Built for Warm Summers
Bloom-A-Thon® Azaleas are selected for heat tolerance, allowing the rebloom cycle to continue through summer.
Choose White, Red, Pink, Lavender, or Hot Pink
The series covers a range of azalea colors, from quiet white and lavender to true red and saturated pink.

Compare Bloom-A-Thon® Azaleas
Flower color is the biggest difference between selections, but mature size varies too. White stays the smallest, and Hot Pink develops the broadest mound.
| Variety | Flowers | Mature Size | Landscape Role | Why Choose It |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bloom-A-Thon® White | Pure white | 2.5–3' H × 2.5–3' W | Front foundation / container | Smallest selection and easy to repeat in groups |
| Bloom-A-Thon® Red | Clear red | 3–4' H × 3–4' W | Accent / low flowering hedge | Strong warm color on a balanced mounded shrub |
| Bloom-A-Thon® Pink Double | Double pink | 3.5–4.5' H × 3–4' W | Foundation / flowering mass | Layered double flowers provide a fuller bloom look |
| Bloom-A-Thon® Lavender | Lavender-purple | 3.5–4.5' H × 3–4' W | Cool-toned specimen / grouping | Uncommon lavender color for a reblooming azalea |
| Bloom-A-Thon® Hot Pink | Saturated hot pink | 3.5–4.5' H × 3.5–4.5' W | Mass planting / focal color | Strongest pink color and a broad, full mound |
One Shrub, More Than One Flowering Season
Bloom-A-Thon® flowers on both old and new wood. The spring display comes first, followed by new growth that supports the later round of flowers.
Spring
The first major flush covers the shrub with flowers for several weeks.
After Spring Bloom
Once flowers fade, trim the branches lightly to shape and support strong rebloom.
Summer
Fresh growth develops and begins producing another round of flower buds.
Summer Into Fall
Rebloom continues through the later season and can carry on until a hard frost.
Use Repetition for an Impactful Display
Bloom-A-Thon® White matures around 3 feet tall and wide, making it the smallest selection in the group and a good fit beneath windows or along the front of a deeper shrub border.
Repeating several plants creates a broader color block. Dark evergreen foliage behind the azaleas gives the white flowers a clean backdrop.
Pine needle mulch suits azaleas well because their shallow root systems benefit from a protected, evenly moist root zone.
Bloom-A-Thon® Azalea Quick Facts
Protect the Shallow Roots and Time Pruning Carefully
Good drainage, acidic soil, steady moisture, and the right pruning window support healthy growth and repeat flowering.
Give Them Light Without Excess Heat Stress
Bloom-A-Thon® can grow in part sun to full sun. In hotter climates, a location with morning sun and some protection from intense afternoon heat can reduce stress on the foliage and roots.
Plant in Acidic, Well-Drained Soil
Azaleas prefer organic-rich, acidic soil that drains freely. Avoid low spots and compacted areas where water remains around the shallow roots.
Keep Moisture Steady
Water regularly during establishment and during hot, dry weather. The shallow root system can dry more quickly than deeper-rooted shrubs, but saturated soil can lead to root problems.
Apply a 2- to 3-Inch Layer
Pine bark, pine straw, or another organic mulch helps maintain soil moisture and protects shallow roots. Keep the mulch pulled back from the main stems.
Trim After the Spring Flush
If pruning is needed, give Bloom-A-Thon® a conservative all-over trim as the spring flowers fade. This encourages fresh growth that supports the later flowering cycle.
Do Not Feed Late in the Season
Use a fertilizer formulated for azaleas and rhododendrons only when needed. Avoid fertilizing after mid-July so tender new growth is not stimulated late in the season.
Compact Enough for Containers
Their mounded form makes these azaleas easy to use singly, in repeated groups, or in large decorative planters.
Bright Containers
White flowers and dark foliage make Bloom-A-Thon® White stand out in decorative pots near entries, patios, and shaded seating areas.
Strong Container Color
Bloom-A-Thon® Red gives a container planting a clear focal point and can be used alone or surrounded by trailing annuals.
Lavender Near the Entry
The cooler flower color works well near gray stone, blue containers, silver foliage, and other muted porch or patio materials.
Let the Azaleas Form the Flowering Middle Layer
Bloom-A-Thon® Lavender reaches roughly 3.5 to 4.5 feet tall and can bridge the gap between taller evergreens and low groundcovers.
A backdrop of arborvitae gives the flowering shrubs year-round structure, and lower companions can cover the foreground, although the azaleas fill space completely to the ground.
Bloom-A-Thon® Lavender is also stunning near cream, silver, variegated green, and chartreuse foliage.

Bloom-A-Thon® Azalea FAQs
What are Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas?
Bloom-A-Thon® is a Proven Winners® series of reblooming azaleas selected to produce a spring flower display followed by additional flowers during summer and fall. Plant Addicts carries five varieties: White, Red, Pink Double, Lavender, and Hot Pink.
How long do Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas bloom?
They typically produce a major spring flush followed by a second flowering period through summer and fall. Under good growing conditions, the combined flowering period can extend for many weeks and continue until hard frost.
Do Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas bloom on old or new wood?
Bloom-A-Thon® Azaleas flower on both old and new wood. The old wood supports the spring display, and new growth helps produce the later rebloom.
When should Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas be pruned?
If pruning is needed, give the shrub a light trim as the spring flowers begin to fade. Avoid substantial pruning later in the season because that can interfere with flowering and new bud development.
How large do Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas get?
Mature size depends on the variety. Bloom-A-Thon® White stays around 2.5 to 3 feet tall and wide. Red reaches about 3 to 4 feet. Pink Double and Lavender reach roughly 3.5 to 4.5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, and Hot Pink grows about 3.5 to 4.5 feet tall and wide.
Which Bloom-A-Thon Azalea is the smallest?
Bloom-A-Thon® White is the most compact of the five Plant Addicts carries, maturing at about 2.5 to 3 feet tall and wide.
Which Bloom-A-Thon Azalea has double flowers?
Bloom-A-Thon® Pink Double produces layered double pink flowers and is the best choice in the collection when flower fullness is the priority.
How much sun do Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas need?
They grow in part sun to full sun. In hot climates, morning sun with protection from the strongest afternoon heat can reduce stress and help the shallow root system retain moisture.
What soil do Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas need?
Use acidic, organic-rich soil with good drainage. Like other azaleas, Bloom-A-Thon® does not perform well in alkaline soil, compacted ground, or areas where the root zone remains saturated.
Can Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas grow in containers?
Yes. Their compact mounded habit makes them well suited to substantial outdoor containers. Use an acidic potting mix, a container with drainage holes, and monitor moisture closely during hot weather.
Are Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas evergreen?
Foliage retention can vary with the variety and climate. Bloom-A-Thon® is often described as semi-evergreen because plants may retain foliage at the outer branch tips and shed some interior leaves during winter.
Should Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas be mulched?
Yes. A 2- to 3-inch layer of pine bark, pine straw, shredded bark, or another organic mulch helps protect the shallow roots and maintain more even soil moisture.
When should Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas be fertilized?
Fertilize only when needed with a product intended for azaleas and other acid-loving shrubs. Avoid feeding after mid-July so the plant does not push tender new growth late in the season.
Where can I buy Bloom-A-Thon Azaleas?
Plant Addicts carries Bloom-A-Thon® White, Red, Pink Double, Lavender, and Hot Pink Azaleas online. Availability changes during the growing season.
Choose the Flower Color and Mature Size That Fit Your Space
Pick White for the smallest habit, Red for a warm accent, Pink Double for fuller flowers, Lavender for cooler color, or Hot Pink for the strongest pink statement. All five bring the same central advantage: azalea flowers that return after the spring display.
