The Chick Charms® Lemon Waves Hens and Chicks requires little care but makes a significant and colorful addition to a landscape or container. The large rosette features thin, pointed leaves with a slight curl. The foliage transitions to various colors throughout the year, including chartreuse green, blue-green, and burgundy. Sempervivum 'Lemon Waves' PPAF is low maintenance and stunning.
Feature this succulent in a rock garden, near the front of a bed, or create a colorful border. The Lemon Waves Hens and Chicks make an excellent container plant. A perk of growing hens and chicks in a container is that you can admire the foliage up close. This plant is drought resistant, and deer and rabbits leave it alone. The Lemon Waves Hens and Chicks are winter hardy evergreen perennials that grow in zones 3 through 8.
Chick Charms® Lemon Waves Hens and Chicks Care
Plant Lemon Waves Hens and Chicks in full sun to part shade. Plants in full sun will grow bigger and have more distinct variegation, so be mindful when selecting a site. Use a dry, well-drained potting mix with some organic content. Only water the plant during an extended dry period. Hens and chicks are not heavy feeders and do not need fertilizer.
The ‘hens’ die after sending out offshoots and can be removed to make room for young plants. Move container-grown plants to a protected area during the winter. Plants in the ground do not need special winter care, but you can protect them with a layer of mulch in cold climates.
Chick Charms® Lemon Waves Hens and Chicks Spacing
The Lemon Waves Hens and Chicks only reach 2 to 3 inches tall but spread about 12 inches. Space plants about 12 inches apart to create a continuous, dense groundcover.
