Growing Zones
The name for Double Scoop Mandarin Coneflower sounds almost as pretty as it looks. This bright orange Echinacea hybrid has double pom-pom style flowers. Unlike some Echinaceas, the rich color doesn't fade as the flowers age. You can even cut the stalks for fresh or dried flower arrangements. And with a little attention, they will continue to bloom all summer for a sizzling display of deep reddish orange color.
Double Scoop Mandarin Coneflower attracts bees, butterflies, and birds with its bright orange "landing pad." Echinaceas are deer resistant, though. The unusual color of Double Scoop Mandarin makes it a perfect thriller plant in the center of a container or as a welcoming and colorful border. The plants are drought tolerant once they mature and can handle cold and heat of zones 4 through 9. They're so pretty and easy, an entire "field" of these coneflowers will make traffic stop in your neighborhood most of the summer.
Double Scoop Mandarin Coneflower Care
Plant Double Scoop Mandarin Coneflower in full sun if possible or a few hours of shade a day. The plant needs to be in soil that drains well enough to prevent roots from being too wet for long. Make sure your soil or potting mix has good drainage. Remove flowers as they begin to dry or fade to encourage more blooms. There is no need to fertilize your coneflower; just give it a fresh layer of compost each spring.
Double Scoop Mandarin Coneflower Spacing
Double Scoop Mandarin Coneflower plants grow about 2 feet high and wide, so be sure to space them about 16 to 22 inches apart to keep all of them healthy once full size.
