Everlast™ Orchid Pinks Dianthus, Everlast™ Sweet William, or Everlast™ Orchid Pinks, is a low-maintenance, summer-blooming biennial with fragrant, floriferous clusters of magenta and purple blooms. It grows from 8 to 10 inches in height with a spread of 12 to 15 inches. This show-stopping Dianthus is named for its seemingly endless blooming period that begins in early May and continues into autumn, providing even beginning gardeners with a coveted splash of vibrant fall color. Everlast™ Orchid Pinks Dianthus is self-seeding, and often used as a cut flower to enliven flower arrangements and bouquets. Its finely textured, gray-green foliage contrasts beautifully with its vivid, sweet-smelling flowers.
Native to Europe and east Asia, Everlast™ Orchid Pinks Dianthus is an elegant addition to any cottage garden. It has a compact, mounding habit and is remarkable when planted en masse, brightening any woodland landscape with vivid color and unforgettable aroma. It is a perfect addition to any well-drained pot or container and works well as a ‘filler’.
Everlast™ Orchid Pinks Dianthus Care
Everlast™ Orchid Pinks Dianthus prefers full to partial sun. More sun equals a larger amount of blooms on your Dianthus. It is adaptable and hardy, thriving in most types of soil, so long as the soil has adequate drainage. Avoid planting your Sweet William too closely together, as it will need adequate airflow to thrive.
Mid-season, it is best to punch off spent blooms to encourage the coming rebloom in late August. You should prune back your Everlast™ Dianthus after it has finished blooming in the late fall to help it grow strong in the following growing season. You may also need to apply a broad spectrum fungicide to avoid crown and root rot.
Everlast™ Orchid Pinks Dianthus Spacing
Everlast™ Orchid Pinks Dianthus works beautifully in containers and pots of all kinds. They are ideal for cottage gardens and edging. They should be spaced 12 to 18 inches apart at planting and look especially stunning as a low grower in front of other perennials or as part of a mixed perennial bed.
