FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Heuchera opens the season in rosy copper tones, then layers in violet, silver, and purple as the foliage matures. The purple tones become increasingly prominent toward fall. The narrow, deeply divided foliage has a distinctly lacy appearance but retains the durability expected from heuchera. Rhodonite forms a compact mound about 8 inches tall and 11 inches wide and occasionally blooms 14-inch stems of white flowers in late spring.

Heuchera villosa ‘Rhodonite’ belongs to Terra Nova Nurseries’ FYRE WING™ series, developed from an unusual leaf mutation that was refined through several years of breeding and selection. It represents the first reliably expressed form of the series’ lace-leaf trait in rose-toned foliage, providing a markedly different look from conventional rounded-leaf coral bells. Hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9, the plant maintains a dense mounding habit and handles both summer heat and winter cold when drainage is good. Use it along shaded walkways, beneath open-canopy shrubs, in small foliage groupings, or as a compact focal plant in mixed containers.

FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Heuchera Care

Grow FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Heuchera in full sun to part shade, giving it some protection from intense afternoon sun in hotter climates. Organic-rich, moderately well-drained soil supports the best root growth, and the crown should remain at or slightly above soil level. Aim for a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH, although coral bells tolerate a fairly broad range when drainage is suitable.

Water when the top 2 inches of soil begin to dry, keeping newly planted heuchera evenly moist while roots develop. Established plants tolerate short dry periods and generally perform better with slightly dry soil than with prolonged saturation. Apply a thin layer of compost or a modest amount of balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring as growth resumes.

Trim tattered or damaged foliage just before new spring growth begins, using clean shears to cut individual leaves close to the crown. Remove spent flower stems at their base after blooming if they detract from the foliage display. In colder regions, leave healthy foliage in place through winter so it can help protect the crown, then remove weathered leaves in early spring.

FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Heuchera Spacing

Space FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Heuchera about 12 to 14 inches apart for a closely planted border or 16 inches apart when each mound should remain clearly defined. A container about 10 to 12 inches wide accommodates one young plant. Use an organic, freely draining potting mix.

FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Heuchera Companion Plants

Dead nettle and windflowers make compatible landscape companions in partial shade, adding lower ground coverage and later flowers around Rhodonite. Impatiens can accompany it in a mixed container where filtered sun and consistent moisture support both plants.
