You will love the magenta flowers of Leading Lady Plum Bee Balm almost as much as the butterflies and hummingbirds the flowers attract. Bee balm, or Monarda, is a North American native with a stunning blossom. This hybrid is special for its unique flower color and early blooms. You should start seeing the large spoke-like petals open in early summer. It keeps blooming through at least midsummer weeks.

With a height of about 10 to 14 inches and a clumping spread of about 2 feet, Leading Lady Plum Bee Balm is a low-growing but eye-catching choice. Spruce up containers with this bee balm as a filler around taller plants in the back or middle. It's also a great choice for borders, since the plant is a native and easy-care hybrid. You'll enjoy the fragrant flower and foliage. Bee balm is deer resistant.

Leading Lady Plum Bee Balm Care

Plant your Leading Lady Plum Bee Balm in full sun (at least 6 hours a day) for best performance, but it also does well in part sun of 4 to 6 hours a day. It is cold hardy to zone 4 and can tolerate heat of up to zone 8, so it's a versatile native flower. Your bee balm prefers rich, moist soil and regular watering. You can remove faded blooms to encourage more flowers. In fact, cut a few to bring in for flower arrangements.

Leading Lady Plum Bee Balm Spacing

If you plant Leading Lady Plum Bee Balm in a group or near other plants in your landscape, be sure to space the plants 1 to 2 feet apart. Giving bee balm some air circulation helps prevent diseases.
