If you are looking for a rich, perfumed rose to enhance your garden, Purple Pavement will provide just that. Deep and aromatic, Purple Pavement is a beautifully colored purple-crimson rose with abundant green foliage around each bloom. A hybrid rugosa rose bred by Karl Baum in 1983 from Germany, this rose is astoundingly robust and incredibly disease resistant. Purple Pavement has a spread from nearly 2 to 4 feet and grows about 2 to 3 feet tall. With semi double, mauve colored blooms that bloom all summer long, these roses offer a fragrant and dramatic spark to any garden.
Purple Pavement is easy to maintain due to its ability to withstand disease and its remarkably hardiness. This rose grows best in USDA zones 3 through 8. Purple Pavement has dense and rounded blooms that give off a moderate fragrance attractive to pollinators and even song birds. This rose’s outstanding green, opposite leaf attached foliage vivifies the mauve-crimson blend flowers. Add this rose to your garden as a hedge or decorative shrub for a full, dreamy, and alluring look.
Purple Pavement Rose Care
Purple Pavement does well in full sun but can also tolerate partial sun. As with most roses, it is important to place this rose in well draining soil. Fertilizing can be done with most granular fertilizers that have high nitrogen content such as alfalfa meal.
You can prune back the rose shrub to promote repeat blooming. Cut off any old blooms right above the five-leaf part on the rose stem. Though these roses are hardy, it is important to cover the plant at soil level using compost and mulch to protect the base from the cold in the winter months. In early spring, you can cut off any older stems at base level in order to help encourage new growth.
Purple Pavement Rose Spacing
Purple Pavement flourishes in most spaces with its deep purple roses and striking green foliage. When spacing Purple Pavement, it is important to give the rose about 2 to 3 feet between other plants in order to allow the rose to fully mature into its full and robust bush.
