Sally Holmes Rose charms gardeners with cascading clusters of creamy-white blooms that create a lush, romantic backdrop. Each large, single to semi-double flower measures about three to four inches across and reveals a golden center as the petals unfurl. This climbing shrub typically grows six to eight feet tall (sometimes reaching up to twelve feet if trained), all while offering a refreshing, lightly sweet fragrance. Nearly thorn-free canes reduce maintenance woes, making it an appealing option for arches, trellises, or even as a substantial free-standing shrub.

This rose also draws attention for its vigorous nature and ability to adapt. Bred in the 1970s, Sally Holmes has stood the test of time, thriving in hardiness zones 5 to 9 with minimal issues. Its substantial disease resistance means less worry about black spot or powdery mildew, and its slight shade tolerance allows for planting in areas that receive less than full, all-day sun. Use Sally Holmes Rose for a standout privacy screen, train it up an arbor for a showy entrance, or let it sprawl elegantly along a fence. Wherever it’s placed, the clusters of blooms will add layers of soft color and delicate fragrance all summer long.

Sally Holmes Rose Care

Plant Sally Holmes Rose in well-draining soil enriched with compost or aged manure. Provide at least six hours of sun daily for consistent blooming, though this rose can still blossom under partial sun conditions. Water generously after planting and maintain moderate moisture, especially during dry spells. Once established, continue to water deeply about once or twice a week, increasing frequency during periods of intense heat or drought. Aim the water at the root zone rather than the foliage to reduce the chance of fungal issues.

Use a balanced rose fertilizer in early spring and again mid-season to encourage strong, healthy canes and abundant blooms. Additional feeding in late summer can extend flowering into fall, resulting in an even richer display of delicate, creamy-white clusters. A light layer of mulch moderates soil temperature and conserves moisture.

Aim to prune in early spring, removing any dead or weak canes to encourage vigorous new growth. If grown as a climber, secure canes to a trellis or other support and remove any wayward laterals for a tidier shape. During the blooming season, removing spent blossoms keeps the rose looking neat, although Sally Holmes is somewhat self-cleaning. In colder regions, consider insulating the base with extra mulch for winter protection, especially for young or newly planted roses.

Sally Holmes Rose Spacing

Expect Sally Holmes Rose to reach up to 8 feet in height (or more if trained as a climber), so allow enough space or support for canes to spread. Space multiple plants 3 to 4 feet apart to allow sufficient airflow around the canes. This rose performs well in typical garden conditions, and its flexible growth habit suits formal rose beds or informal cottage-style gardens alike.

If container-grown, use a pot at least 16 inches in diameter and depth to support the root system. Refresh the potting mix every couple of years, and keep an eye on water needs, as potted roses can dry out more quickly. Position the container near a fence or install a freestanding trellis for the climbing canes if you want dramatic height.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
