Large, lush, variegated foliage makes the Shadowland® 'Sound of Music' Hosta an impressive addition to a landscape. This Hosta hybrid has spade-shaped, corrugated leaves. The foliage grows in a rosette form and is predominately bluish-green with swirls of chartreuse throughout. The variegation transitions to a creamy white as the growing season progresses. While the foliage is impressive, this leafy beauty also blooms. White bell-shaped flowers dangle from tall flower spikes in spring and summer.
Hostas grow well in low light and thrive in areas unsuitable for many plants. Feature this perennial underneath a shade tree or along a building or shed. Include this Hosta in a mixed bed or create a leafy mass planting. The flowers add height and attract hummingbirds. Shadowland® 'Sound of Music' Hosta is a hardy perennial that grows in zones 3 through 9.
Shadowland® 'Sound of Music' Hosta Care
The shade-loving Shadowland® 'Sound of Music' Hosta thrives in part to full shade. Plant it in rich, moist, and well-drained soil with a neutral to acidic pH. Young plants need consistent water, while established plants are drought tolerant. Apply a balanced fertilizer each spring.
Trim the flower spikes when the blooms fade to maintain a tidy appearance. Cut all growth to ground level after it dies back in the fall. Divide clumps as necessary in early spring or late fall.
Shadowland® 'Sound of Music' Hosta Spacing
Mature Shadowland® 'Sound of Music' Hosta reaches about 2.5 feet tall and 5.5 feet wide. These plants are vigorous growers that can be spaced 5.5 feet apart, center on center, or further if you want to define the margins of each plant.
