Perfecto Mundo® Azaleas
Full Spring Color. Then Flowers Return.
Perfecto Mundo® Azaleas are renowned for both a heavy spring flower display and a second flowering period from summer into fall. Dense habits, rich flower colors, lace bug resistance, and sizes from low Carpet selections to large-flowered Epic varieties make this series easy to match to the landscape.

Reblooming Azaleas Without Giving Up the Spring Show
Many gardeners choose reblooming azaleas for a longer season of color. Perfecto Mundo® delivers not only repeat flowering, but a dense spring display, saturated colors, substantial flowers, tidy habits, and strong garden performance. The first flush arrives in spring, followed by another flowering period from summer into fall.
A Full Spring Flower Show
Perfecto Mundo® selections do not sacrifice the first flush to gain reblooming performance.
Flowers Return Later
After the spring bloom and a period of new growth, the plants begin flowering again from summer into fall. A light trim after the spring flush can encourage more new growth and additional late-season flowers.
Selected for Better Performance
Dense habits and lace bug resistance help address two common concerns with landscape azaleas. The series was evaluated across nursery, landscape, field, cold-climate, and Southern heat trials.
Thousands of Azaleas Narrowed Down to the Best Performers
Perfecto Mundo® originated with breeder Dr. Tom Ranney and his team at North Carolina State University. Spring Meadow Nursery began evaluating advanced selections in 2016.
The process started with 150 selections and 38 plants of each, creating a trial of 5,700 azaleas. Plants were compared for bloom period, flower size, flower color, habit, pest and disease issues, finish time, and overall container performance.
Finalists also faced landscape trials, low-care field conditions, Michigan winters, and Southern heat and humidity before earning a place in the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® collection.

Hello and welcome to the research and development greenhouses at Spring Meadow Nursery. I'm Dr. Judson LeCompte.
Growing up in Alabama, azaleas have always been one of my favorite plants. When I was younger, I remember my mother dressing us up each spring in our Easter best and taking pictures in front of huge Southern Indica azaleas in full bloom. I love them. They look like beautiful clouds in shades of white, pink, and purple. There was no better sign that spring had returned.
These days, consumers favor modern azaleas that flower from spring to fall. This might sound ideal, but many of these varieties trade flower size and quantity for reblooming characteristics. I miss the full flush of spring color. I want big, beautiful, bright azalea clouds.
Any plant with a Proven Winners name has to be superior to what is already available on the market. Sometimes we even set out to create cultivars that will outperform ones in our own catalog. That's why Spring Meadow set out to create a better azalea: plants that produce big, bright clouds of color in spring and fall.
For azaleas, we partnered with Dr. Tom Ranney from North Carolina State University. We started the evaluation process with Dr. Ranney in 2016. We chose 150 of his advanced selections and propagated 38 of each selection.
For the first year, these 5,700 azaleas were grown in a container trial that mimicked their traditional nursery upbringing. At the same time, the plants were compared with current best-selling competition. Data was collected almost weekly, including bloom period, flower size, flower color, plant habit, pest and disease issues, finish time, and overall container presence.
At the end of the growing season, plants were moved into landscape and field trials. The landscape trial was well maintained to represent a homeowner's garden. A 40-acre field trial exposed plants to the elements with little care beyond supplemental irrigation, including Michigan winters.
The container trial was repeated for multiple years. The goal was to narrow almost 6,000 azaleas down to a handful worthy of the Proven Winners name. The final selections were also sent to Southern field trials in Florida, where they faced high temperatures, intense light, and high humidity.
Perfecto Mundo® Double Pink and Double Purple were among the first outstanding selections. Double Dark Pink, Double White, Orange, and Red later expanded the color range.
Perfecto Mundo® azaleas were selected for longer bloom periods and large flushes of flowers in spring and fall. The evaluation also considered improved pest and disease resistance, adaptability, cold hardiness, and heat tolerance.
Classic Colors, Epic Flowers & Carpet Habits
The collection now covers more than flower color. Choose the original compact forms for versatile landscaping, Epic varieties for the largest flower size, or Carpet selections for a low flowering layer.
Classic Perfecto Mundo®
Double Pink, Double Dark Pink, Double White, Double Purple, Orange, and Red form the core of the series.
Most stay around 2 to 3 feet tall with rounded habits that work well in foundations, borders, low hedges, masses, and containers.
Epic Pink™ & Epic Coral™
The Epic selections trade the smaller scale of the original series for flowers of much larger proportions.
Both mature around 3 to 4 feet tall and can spread 3 to 5 feet, giving them more presence as specimens or in substantial foundation beds.
Carpet Selections
Epic Pink Carpet™ and Fuchsia Carpet™ stay only about 1 to 2 feet tall and spread around 2 to 2.5 feet.
Their low, spreading form fits the front of borders, pathway edges, low masses, slopes, and containers.

Spring Flowers on Old Wood. Repeat Flowers on New Growth.
Perfecto Mundo® Azaleas use two seasons of growth to extend flowering. The major spring flush develops from buds formed on older stems. After that bloom finishes, the shrub produces new shoots that can carry the later round of flowers.
This is why pruning timing is so imporant. If the plant needs shaping, give it a light trim immediately after the spring flowers fade. That timing removes less of the future flower display and encourages fresh growth for the summer and fall rebloom.
No pruning is required for reblooming. A trim simply encourages additional branching and can increase the amount of new flowering wood.
Perfecto Mundo® Azalea Quick Facts
Good Care Supports Both Flowering Seasons
Azaleas have shallow root systems and require good site preparation and regular moisture. Proper pruning after the spring bloom gives the second flower cycle the best start.
Filtered Sun Is an Excellent Choice
Perfecto Mundo® grows in part sun to full sun. Bright filtered light or morning sun works especially well. Plants can take more direct sun in cooler climates when the soil stays evenly moist.
Keep the Root Zone Acidic
Grow azaleas in loose, organic-rich, well-drained soil. A pH around 4.5 to 6.0 is a useful target. Avoid low spots, compacted soil, and planting holes that remain saturated after rain.
Do Not Let Shallow Roots Dry Out
Keep newly planted azaleas consistently moist during establishment. Water deeply during dry weather after establishment, but make sure the root zone does not stay soggy.
Trim After the Spring Flush
Pruning is optional. If shaping is needed, prune immediately after spring flowering. A light trim encourages branching and new growth that can support more summer and fall flowers.
Feed Early, Not Late
If soil fertility is poor, use a fertilizer for azaleas, rhododendrons, or other acid-loving shrubs. Apply in early spring or after the spring bloom. Avoid late-season feeding that encourages tender growth before winter.
Protect Plants at the Cold Edge
Zone 6 gardens should provide a protected location and a good mulch layer over the shallow root zone. Water during dry fall weather and avoid exposed sites with drying winter winds.
Choose the Scale That Fits Your Landscape
Perfecto Mundo® is not a one-size series. The Epic selections are substantial flowering shrubs, the classic forms stay compact and rounded, and Carpet selections create a much lower layer.
Epic Coral™: Bigger Scale
Epic Coral™ grows 3 to 4 feet tall and can spread as much as 5 feet. Its large pink-orange flowers give it enough presence for specimen use, foundation beds, and broad mass plantings.
Red: Compact & Rounded
Perfecto Mundo® Red stays around 2.5 feet tall and spreads 3 to 4 feet. That low mound works well below windows, along walkways, in low hedges, and in repeating foundation plantings.
Fuchsia Carpet™: Keep It Low
At only 1 to 2 feet tall, this compact selection fits along bed edges, pathways, low foundation walls, and the front of mixed shrub borders without hiding plants behind it.
Compact Perfecto Mundo® Varieties Fit Patio Pots
The classic and Carpet selections are well suited to large outdoor containers. Perfecto Mundo® Red, for example, stays low enough for patios and entry areas but still develops into a substantial flowering shrub.
Use a container with drainage holes and a potting mix made for acid-loving plants. Pots dry more quickly than garden beds, so monitor moisture closely during warm weather.
Container roots also experience colder winter temperatures than plants growing in the ground. Protect pots in colder parts of the series' range.
See Double Purple Up Close
Perfecto Mundo® Double Purple shows off a deeply saturated purple color on ruffled double flowers and a compact 2.5 to 3-foot habit. Like the rest of the series, the spring display is followed by another flowering period later in the growing season.

Perfecto Mundo® Azalea FAQs
How long do Perfecto Mundo azaleas bloom?
Perfecto Mundo® Azaleas have two main flowering periods rather than one uninterrupted bloom. They produce a heavy spring flush, rest as new growth develops, then flower again from summer into fall. Weather and climate affect the exact timing and duration.
Do all Perfecto Mundo azaleas rebloom?
Yes. Double Dark Pink, Double Pink, Double White, Orange, Double Purple, Red, Epic Coral, Epic Pink, Epic Pink Carpet, and Fuchsia Carpet are all reblooming selections. They flower in spring and produce another round of blooms later in the growing season.
Do Perfecto Mundo azaleas bloom on old or new wood?
They bloom on both. The primary spring display develops on old wood from the previous growing season. New growth produced after spring flowering carries the later summer and fall rebloom.
When should Perfecto Mundo azaleas be pruned?
Prune immediately after the spring bloom if shaping is needed. A light trim at this time encourages branching and new growth for the later flower cycle. Avoid pruning late in the growing season.
What colors do Perfecto Mundo azaleas come in?
The Plant Addicts collection includes light and dark pink, white, orange, purple, red, coral-pink, bubblegum pink, and fuchsia selections. Several classic varieties also have full double flowers.
Which Perfecto Mundo azalea has the biggest flowers?
Perfecto Mundo® Epic Pink™ and Epic Coral™ were selected for the largest flowers. Epic Pink produces huge bubblegum-pink blooms, and Epic Coral has large pink-orange flowers with thick petal-like stamens that create a semi-double appearance.
What is the smallest Perfecto Mundo azalea?
Perfecto Mundo® Epic Pink Carpet™ and Perfecto Mundo Fuchsia Carpet™ are the lowest-growing selections. They mature around 1 to 2 feet tall and spread about 2 to 2.5 feet.
What kind of azalea is Perfecto Mundo Double White?
Perfecto Mundo® Double White is a compact reblooming Rhododendron hybrid with pure white double flowers. It grows about 2.5 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide and flowers in spring before reblooming later in the season.
Which reblooming Perfecto Mundo azalea is best?
The best variety depends on the space and flower color you want. Choose a classic selection for a compact 2- to 3-foot shrub, Epic Pink or Epic Coral for the largest flowers and a bigger plant, or one of the Carpet selections for a low border or groundcover-style planting.
How much sun do Perfecto Mundo azaleas need?
Perfecto Mundo® Azaleas grow in part sun to full sun. Bright filtered light or morning sun is a good choice in many gardens. More sun is suitable in cooler climates when soil moisture remains consistent, and afternoon protection can reduce stress in hot regions.
Are Perfecto Mundo azaleas resistant to lace bugs?
Yes. Lace bug resistance was one of the performance traits selected for in the Perfecto Mundo® series. Good siting, consistent moisture, and healthy soil conditions also help reduce plant stress.
Can Perfecto Mundo azaleas grow in containers?
Yes. Their compact habits make many Perfecto Mundo® varieties good container shrubs. Use a pot with excellent drainage and acidic potting mix, maintain consistent moisture, and provide added winter root protection in colder climates.
What is the best month to plant Perfecto Mundo azaleas?
There is no single best month for every climate. Spring and early fall are generally good planting periods because temperatures are moderate and roots have time to establish. Avoid planting during periods of extreme heat, drought, or frozen soil, and keep new plants consistently watered.
Can you grow Perfecto Mundo azaleas from seed?
Perfecto Mundo® plants are named cultivated hybrids. Seed-grown plants would not reliably reproduce the same flower color, plant size, or reblooming traits. Gardeners who want a specific Perfecto Mundo® variety should purchase the named plant rather than seed.
Where can I buy Perfecto Mundo azaleas?
Plant Addicts sells Perfecto Mundo® Double Dark Pink, Double Pink, Double White, Orange, Double Purple, Red, Epic Coral, Epic Pink, Epic Pink Carpet, and Fuchsia Carpet Azaleas online. Available container sizes and inventory vary during the growing season.
