If you’ve ever wished your azaleas just flowered more than a few weeks, the Perfecto Mundo series of Azaleas is your answer. With this series, you’ll see lavish spring bloom followed by a repeat performance from midsummer through frost – without any pruning required! A light trim will boost your summer flowers, however. Another win for this series is it is resistant to lace bugs, a pest that threatens azaleas in many regions in the country. This cultivar, Perfecto Mundo Red has the first red in the series – a bold cherry that will glow from a distance.
Perfecto Mundo Red is a compact, neatly mounded, evergreen with glossy dark green foliage that blooms its heart out in sun or part shade, and only reaches 30 inches high, so it’s a great centerpiece for larger patio pots or raised beds, as well as in countless landscape applications.
Perfecto Mundo® Red Azalea Care
Perfecto Mundo Red, like all azaleas, will love an acidic soil, a sunny or partially sunny site, and regular water. If your soil tends to the alkaline, you can plant in containers with a balanced potting soil, or applying acidic fertilizer in landscape locations. For general fertilizing, a rose fertilizer is best in early spring just as new growth emerges. Its bloom power comes from its ability to flower on both old and new wood, so while it doesn’t require pruning, a light trim after the initial spring bloom will bring on fuller new growth for an expanded second show.
Perfecto Mundo is also resistant to lace bug, which can be a pest in certain areas. This evergreen shrub is cold-hardy to zone 6b, but it’s really 6b with an asterisk - the distributor notes it prefers milder coastal 6b locations to harsher inland winters. Mulching and planting in protected spots is ideal in zone 6b.
Perfecto Mundo® Red Azalea Spacing
With a height of 30 inches and a spread of up to 48 inches, we recommend a spacing of 36 to 48 inches.
