Creating Small Flower Arrangements

Simple flower arrangements with clusters of wildflowers or same species flowers are easy to assemble and provide a touch of elegance to the indoors. You need a few common household items, including twine or florist tape, a vase, and scissors or hand pruners. The entire process takes just a few minutes and results in polished bouquets for any special occasion. The steps and pictures below outline the entire process.

Step 1 - Make your arrangement in your hands. If the flowers can all fit in your hand, you don't need a vase to start the assembly. Work the flowers around until they look right. Keep moving things up, down and around until the arrangement looks good from every angle.

Step 2 - Secure the bouquet with a piece of twine or floral tape. Tie the stems high up on the bouquet where you were holding the stems. We like using green "baker's twine" clothesline because it blends in fairly well.  Brown or green twine is another great option.

Step 3 - Measure the bouquet against the vase. Hold the arrangement next to the vase, placing the flowers where you want them to hit the rim. Gently bend the stems at the bottom, and use your second hand to cut at the bend. Place the flowers in the vase and they will fit perfectly around the rim.

Notice how the flowers and foliage sit perfectly on the rim all the way around the arrangement. From each side, the arrangement looks perfect because it was secured with each stem at the appropriate height. This whole process takes about 3 minutes from start to finish and is so much easier than measuring and arranging each stem one by one in a vase.
