Going after a colorful shrub that’ll all brilliant hues from the spring all the way through fall? The Double Play Big Bang Spirea is your answer! While this shrub will attract plenty of attention with its gorgeous aesthetics, it’s also known for enticing butterflies, which will add a lively appeal to any landscaping plan.

Generally on the smaller side, the Double Play Big Bang Spirea generally grows to 2’-3’ tall and anywhere from 2’-3’ wide. Blooms are quite long in length, spanning from the spring clear through the fall. This shrub’s foliage is part of the plant’s intrigue - initially appearing as a bright orange, there’s a slow transition to a glowing yellow for the summer months, then tapers back to a lovely rich orange in at the end of the blooming season. The Double Play Big Bang Spirea’s size lends itself to a variety of uses, optimally being used in containers, borders, firescaping, and mass plants.

Care is incredibly simple with this shrub, as it’s capable of thriving in nearly any soil condition. However, ensure that the Double Play Big Bang Spirea has access to partial sun at a minimum, although full sun is best. Also, put this shrub on a regular watering schedule, and increase to bi-weekly watering if planted in an extremely warm climate. To encourage full growth, deadhead after flowering and apply a controlled-release fertilizer in the spring.

Like most shrubs, spacing is at the discretion of the plant’s use. For containers, allow 2’-3’ between each plant, but narrow that distance slightly if used in borders or in mass plants.
