Double Play Painted Lady Spirea is a great choice to add color to your garden. It has striking green, yellow and cream variegated leaves and flat-topped clusters of contrasting hot pink flowers at the ends of the branches from late spring to early summer. The small serrated pointy leaves are highly ornamental and turn coppery bronze in the fall. This tidy compact deciduous shrub will add beauty to your garden from spring through fall.

Double Play Painted Lady Spirea will grow to between 2 and 3 feet tall and wide at maturity in USDA hardiness zones 4 to 9 in partial to full sun conditions. This shrub can be used in mass plantings, as an accent plant, in mixed shrub and perennial borders or a container garden. It’s also a great choice to create a low border at the edge of a walkway or patio.

Double Play Painted Lady Spirea Care

Butterflies, bees and hummingbirds are attracted to the flowers and deer tend to leave it alone. It may need occasional pruning in late winter or early spring. It’s fast-growing, drought-tolerant and highly tolerant of urban pollution, even in inner-city environments. The flowers form on new wood.
