This vigorous-growing grape vine yields full clusters of mouthwateringly sweet, citrus-flavored fruits weighing up to a pound. The grapes are a gorgeous, white-tinted green and medium in size, perfect for juices, wines, jellies, and eating straight off of the vine! The wine produced from these grapes is semi-dry and varies from sweet to semi-sweet, with flavor profiles of peach, pineapple, and citrus. The scent profile is said to be foxy and reminiscent of Vitis labrusca. Harvest these delightful fruits all through August, taking care to harvest them before they get too ripe; if they do, the flavor may be too bold for some. Bred from Minnesota #78 and Ontario grapes, this hybrid climber is also incredibly cold hardy up to -15°F, and disease resistant; perfect for areas with a shorter growing season or colder weather!

Edelweiss Grape Vine Care

Hardy in zones 3 through 8, plant this climbing grapevine in the spring in an area that receives full sun. Plant in well-draining sandy loam to sandy clay soil with a pH of 7 to 8. Space your plantings 5 feet apart. Train on a trellis of another climbing apparatus; many gardeners choose to use a Geneva Double Curtain trellis system for Edelweiss Grapevine. Training your vine in the early years is essential for fruit development. Prune in early spring when the vine is still dormant. If properly cared for, this grapevine can live up to 50 years!

Growing Edelweiss Grape Vine

This grapevine has a mature height of 8 to 10 feet and a mature spread of 3 to 6 feet. Harvest once the individual grapes have reached a weight of about 3.3 grams. Mulching is encouraged for this variety, taking care to pull mulch away from the vine.

If growing in a container, avoid using a pot that is too dark in color, which could cause the roots to become overheated. Instead, choose a container at least 15 gallons in size, in a lighter shade, such as wood.

Watering Edelweiss Grape Vine

Water frequently during the first few weeks to encourage proper root development, about 2 or 3 times per week. After this period, soak the ground up to 8 inches when the soil is dry.

Feeding Edelweiss Grape Vine

Feed annually with an organic fertilizer in the spring. In the first year, apply a fertilizer with plenty of phosphorous to encourage root growth and development. In the following years, use an all-purpose organic fertilizer. Test your soil and check nitrogen levels; if there is too much nitrogen, this grapevine may prioritize leafy growth over fruit development. It is also very sensitive to sulfur, so check that too!

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
