The Proven Winners ColorChoice® Invincibelle Mini Mauvette® Hydrangea is bred specifically for cold climate gardeners! This beautiful smooth hydrangea has large purple flowers that are held upright by strong stems. The best thing about this plant, is that is blooms on new growth. This is also an important trait in colder climates, as you do not have to worry about winter damage.
This compact shrub starts to bloom in early summer, and because it is reblooming, the plant is covered in beautiful flowers until after the first frost in the fall. This plant is native to North America, which means it is easier to care for and also beneficial to wildlife like pollinating insects. This is a very versatile plant, great for flower gardens, container gardens, and general landscaping areas.
Invincibelle Mini Mauvette Hydrangea Care
This shrub is perfect for cold climates. Plant this hydrangea in well-drained soil and in an area with at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. Afternoon shade is OK in warmer growing zones like 4 and 8. We recommend adding mulch to help retain moisture and add extra protection during winter months.
To prune the Invincibelle Mini Mauvette Hydrangea, cut back ⅓ of the total length of the branches. Trim back the shrub in early spring, right when the new growth starts to emerge. This helps the stems be stronger, and hold up the large flowers. It also encourages vigorous growth of flowers throughout the summer.
Fertilize using woody plant slow release fertilizer, designed for plants like roses or trees. Apply using directions from whatever fertilizer you choose to go with. Apply in early spring after the ground thaws, but before growth starts to happen.
Invincibelle Mini Mauvette Hydrangea Spacing
The Mini Mauvette Hydrangea should be planted 3 to 4 feet apart, center on center. We like planting this into a mini hedge, or garden border. If you choose to do that, plant these 28 to 36 inches apart, center on center. This bush is great for mass plantings, as it adds color to the landscape from early summer to late fall!
