The showy full-sized blooms of the Invincibelle Sublime Hydrangea are jaw-dropping. Bunches of large, fluffy flowers bloom during the summer and almost appear to hover above the shrub on study stems. The flowers of this smooth hydrangea are a deep tourmaline green and stand out against the broad dark green foliage. This shrub requires lots of sunlight and annual pruning, but otherwise, it is very easy to grow.
The Invincibelle Sublime Hydrangea is native to the southeastern United States. This plant makes a striking addition to hedges, foundation plantings, and perennial gardens. The cloud-like blooms make excellent cut and dried flowers. Hydrangeas attract pollinators like hummingbirds and butterflies, and this variety grows as a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 9.
Invincibelle Sublime™ Hydrangea Care
Hydrangeas do best in rich, slightly acidic soil that promotes drainage. Apply mulch around the plant to hold in the moisture, so the roots do not dry out as quickly. Established plants can be drought-tolerant, but giving the plant a drink during a dry spell or heat wave can help support the shrub. The Invincibelle Sublime Hydrangea needs full sun, especially in colder growing zones. Afternoon shade is ideal in warmer areas.
Prune this Hydrangea back by ⅓ in early spring. Flowers form on new wood, so it is essential to trim the plant back before new growth appears. Cutting the plant back encourages strong stems that are better able to support flower bunches. Remove dead or damaged growth at any time.
Invincibelle Sublime™ Hydrangea Spacing
The Invincibelle Sublime Hydrangea is a medium-sized plant that will be 3.5 to 5 feet tall and just as wide once mature. If featured as a specimen or stand-alone planting, leave at least 6 feet all around the plant. Hydrangeas can be placed as close as 4 to 5 feet if part of a mass planting or to create a hedge.
