Frostkiss® Vibey Velvet™ Lenten Rose enhances an otherwise bleak wintry landscape with big crimson and burgundy blooms from December until March. Offering year-round interest, this showy perennial features silver-lined evergreen leaves that stylishly offset its reddish-purple flowers during late winter and early spring. It reaches 12 to 18 inches and is a unique and classy addition to any garden bed or border.

An ideal choice for busy plant lovers, Frostkiss® Vibey Velvet™ Lenten Rose poses minimal issues. Once established, this striking low-maintenance perennial is drought tolerant. It is also deer and rabbit resistant and heat and cold tolerant (zones 5-8). This hellebore works well as a specimen or accent in shady gardens and borders, including hedges and screens. It thrives in partial shade and offers year-round interest.

Frostkiss® Vibey Velvet™ Lenten Rose Care

Select a location receiving partial shade and plant during spring or autumn. A few hours of sunlight will enhance the foliage’s veining. The soil should be loamy, moist, and well-draining, and its pH should fall between 7.0 and 8.0. With moderate watering needs, Frostkiss® Vibey Velvet™ Lenten Rose requires about an inch of water each week until its roots are established. Since this hybrid does not appreciate soggy feet, check the soil for moisture before watering. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer during the beginning of autumn to encourage robust blooming in winter.

Prune any dead or damaged foliage during late winter or early spring to enhance aeration and access to sunlight. To encourage blooming, deadhead spent florets. This ornamental goes semi-dormant during the summer and slows its growth. As a result, it requires less water and nutrients than usual.

This plant grows well in containers. Just ensure the container is large enough to encourage root growth and has sufficient holes to facilitate proper water drainage. A superb cut flower, Frostkiss® Vibey Velvet™ Lenten Rose adds color and texture to indoor settings when trimmed and assembled into bouquets.

Frostkiss® Vibey Velvet™ Lenten Rose Spacing

Space each plant 15 to 18 inches apart. This ornamental adds color and texture to gardens, hedges, and screens. Plant several alongside other shade-loving perennials including crocus, daffodils, and hostas for amazing color and texture. Add as a single specimen to containers.
