Echinacea x hybrida ‘Balsompocwi’ holds crisp white petals around a warm, golden cone on sturdy stems, topping out at 14–16 inches tall and about as wide. That tight, matched habit keeps the plant looking attractive all season, even after summer storms. Unlike taller echinacea that can open up and lean, this one stays dense and bloom-packed in smaller spaces. The clean white flowers brighten hot-color borders and sharpen modern black-and-green plantings.
Sombrero Poco is bred for excellent branching and strong winter hardiness, so it comes back reliably in Zones 4b–9b. The daisy-like blooms draw butterflies through late spring into late summer, and the plant’s texture is usually ignored by deer. Once established, it handles heat and short dry spells with less fuss than many perennials. Use it as a front-of-border anchor, repeat it in masses for a crisp ribbon of white, or stand it up in a container as the thriller. It also dries well for long-lasting arrangements.
Sombrero Poco™ White Coneflower Care
Plant in full sun for the strongest stems and the heaviest flowering. Choose a well-drained, fertile soil and aim for a slightly acidic to neutral pH of 6.0–7.0. Set the crown level with the surrounding soil and firm it in so roots don’t shift. Water deeply at planting, then keep moisture moderate while it establishes; afterward, let it go a bit drier between soakings. Fertilizer is optional, but a light feeding in spring is enough if growth looks slow.
Snip off spent blooms just above a set of leaves to keep new buds coming. Leave the seedheads in place at the end of the season for winter interest and potential bird activity, and cut stems back in early spring. Avoid burying the crown with heavy mulch. Divide only when clumps become crowded, since echinacea prefers to settle in.
Sombrero Poco™ White Coneflower Spacing
Space plants 16–18 inches apart so each clump can fill out without competition. For containers, start with a 12–14 inch pot for one plant, or step up to 18 inches for mixed combinations. Try pairing it with Russian sage, blue fescue, and black-eyed Susan for a sunny planting that stays sharp from early summer into fall.
