This perennial plant will add changing flower color to your garden from summer through fall. The flowers start orange and mature to a warm shade of red with a dark central cone. Flowers are off-set by their dark green foliage. This coneflower will grow to a 22 to 24-inch spread with an 18-to-22-inch height. Add Sombrero Sangrita Coneflower to your partial to full sun gardens in hardiness zones 4 through 9.
This North American native plant is drought and salt-tolerant. Butterflies will be attracted to its brightly colored flowers and deer tend to leave it alone. This medium-height plant can act as a filler plant in a large container garden. This coneflower is a great choice for perennial border gardens, mixed gardens, and mass plantings. The flowers can be used either fresh or dried for decorative purposes.
Sombrero® Sangrita Coneflower Care
This plant is easy to care for and drought tolerant once established. It adapts well to hot, windy, sunny locations. It has average watering needs but will do best growing in average to dry soils. Sombrero Sangrita Coneflower can handle being grown in soil with a poor to fertile soil fertility level and a wide range of pH.
Deadheading is not necessary for this coneflower to continuously bloom. The individual flowers are long-lasting. Cut back the stems after the flowers have faded in the fall or leave the attractive seed heads to provide food for overwintering birds and winter interest in your gardens.
Sombrero® Sangrita Coneflower Spacing
Leave 22 to 24 inches between individual plants. Container-grown plants may be placed a few inches closer together as long as there is still room for good air circulation.
