Rainbow Rhythm® Orange Smoothie Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Orange Smoothie') produces striking mango-orange blooms with a soft rose band and a hint of pink along the midribs. Each 4-inch flower opens atop strong, well-branched scapes that support up to 32 buds per stem, ensuring an extended bloom period. Flowers appear in early summer and rebloom later in the season, providing lasting color. The bright green, grass-like foliage forms a tidy mound, making it a beautiful addition to borders, mixed perennial beds, or container gardens.
This daylily is highly adaptable and thrives in various soil conditions, including poor or dry soils. It is drought and salt-tolerant once established, making it a good choice for coastal gardens or areas with inconsistent rainfall. The fragrant blooms attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, while the foliage is resistant to rabbit browsing. Its compact, mounding habit allows it to be planted in mass groupings, as edging along pathways, or as a focal point in rock gardens.
Rainbow Rhythm® Orange Smoothie Daylily Care
Plant in full sun to part sun for optimal flowering performance. It grows well in average, well-drained soil and adapts to both acidic and neutral pH levels. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system, then reduce frequency once established. While fertilization is not required, a light application of a balanced garden fertilizer in spring can enhance bloom production.
Deadheading spent flowers encourages a tidier appearance but does not extend the bloom time. In late fall or early spring, remove old foliage to promote fresh growth. For container-grown plants in colder climates, apply mulch around the base for added winter protection.
Rainbow Rhythm® Orange Smoothie Daylily Spacing
Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart for best air circulation and full coverage in mass plantings. When planting in containers, choose a pot at least 12 inches wide to accommodate the root system and allow for proper growth.
