Daylilies are adaptable plants that can handle most conditions but plant in part to full sun to ensure this prolific bloomer produces as many flowers as possible. This plant has average water needs, but newly planted daylilies will need consistently moist conditions. They should be watered supplementally if a dry period is observed, but overall is considered a low maintenance blooming perennial. Use rich, well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
Apply a balanced fertilizer in the spring and again midsummer to promote healthy growth. Prune back damaged or spent growth at any time to neaten up the appearance and encourage more growth. You can also cut the plant back in the late fall or early spring.
