Red hydrangeas are pretty rare type of hydrangea. Most hydrangeas will only grow dark pink. However, in the past few years there has been a few hydrangea shrubs introduced to the market that are actually closer to having red flower. Most of those hydrangeas will start off white or pink and turn to a darker red as the flowers get older.
