Hydrangeas For Shade

Hydrangeas that can grow in shade still require some sunlight during the day. However, these hydrangeas do best when getting morning sun, and some afternoon shade during the hottest part of the day. These hydrangeas listed also typically require more water than other hydrangeas. So being in a location with some shade helps reduce the amount of sunlight needed for these plants to thrive. The only hydrangea that can tolerate full shade, or no direct sunlight at all during the day, is the climbing hydrangea (Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris).
