Low Maintenance

It is no wonder Anubias Barteri is a popular and widely grown semi-aquatic plant, as it is easy to care for and tough. Being able to tolerate most lighting levels, water hardness and pH levels, it is a great first semi-aquatic plant to grow. Producing large, pointed leaves, Anubias Barteri provides great tank coverage and tends not to be eaten by aquatic life. However, Anubias Barteri is not just for growing in an aquarium, as it can also be grown in a terrarium as an emerging plant.

Best Locations For Growing Anubias Barteri

Anubias Barteri grows relatively slowly underwater, but will need a tank or terrarium large enough to accommodate its final size. It is ideal for placing in the middle or back of an aquarium display or for growing as a single specimen in a terrarium.

Anubias Barteri Sunlight Requirements

The Anubias Barteri plant is incredibly tolerant of light levels and will even grow, albeit slowly, in low light conditions. However, in order to thrive and produce denser growth, medium to high light levels are advisable.

Anubias Barteri Plant Care

Anubias are remarkable plants in that they can be grown when either planted into gravel, a soil substrate or even simply attached to a piece of wood. Preferring a water temperature of 72 to 82 ºF and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5, they can cope with soft- to medium-hard water. CO2 supplementation can be beneficial to encourage new growth, but is not strictly necessary. When growing in a terrarium, Anubias Barteri performs best with its roots submersed.

Watering Anubias Barteri

A weekly tank water refresh of 20 to 30% is recommended to keep the plant healthy.

Feeding Anubias Barteri

Generally, the Anubias Barteri plant does not need any supplementary fertilizer, especially when grown in a well-maintained aquarium.
