Blueberry Lemonade Bulb Mix pours cool cobalt and lemony daffodil tones into the spring garden, like a refreshing glass of lemonade with a blueberry twist. This 25-bulb blend includes 10 Muscari armeniacum, 10 Narcissus double 'Milena', and 5 Narcissus 'Polar Hunter' for a low-to-mid height planting with fragrance, texture, and a long seasonal handoff. Blue grape hyacinths make the blue base, while Milena adds fragrant double yellow blooms and Polar Hunter opens green-white flowers that age toward creamy white. Place this mix where visitors can see it easily, because the smaller muscari bells and unusual Polar Hunter coloring deserve a closer look.

The muscari are not true hyacinths and belong to a genus known for dense, grape-like spring flower spikes. Milena brings a full double daffodil form with a lightly recurved perianth and greenish-yellow color. Polar Hunter is the early surprise of the mix with up to four flowers per stem in favorable conditions. This combination works well along paths, in small spring beds, or in patio pots where the muscari can spill around the taller daffodil stems. Daffodils also help protect the planting from browsing pressure, since they are widely avoided by deer and rodents.

Blueberry Lemonade Bulb Mix Care

Plant Blueberry Lemonade Bulb Mix in full sun to part shade, with at least a half day of spring sun for strong daffodil flowering. Use well-drained soil that is moderately fertile, never soggy, and close to slightly acidic or neutral, about pH 6.0 to 7.0. Fall planting is best once soil has cooled, giving the bulbs time to root before winter.

Water well after planting so soil settles around the bulbs, then let normal fall and winter moisture do most of the work. When shoots appear, water only during dry spells, especially while buds are forming and flowers are open. A bulb fertilizer can be worked into the soil at planting or applied as growth begins in spring; skip heavy nitrogen, which can encourage leaves at the expense of flowers.

Remove faded daffodil flowers before seed pods develop, but keep the leaves intact until they loosen or turn brown. Muscari can be deadheaded for a tidier look, or allowed to seed where a loose blue drift is welcome. If clumps become crowded after several years, lift and divide them after the foliage has died back.

After bloom, let the foliage yellow on its own so each bulb can store energy for the next season. Muscari may send up grass-like leaves again in fall, which is normal and not a reason to cut or cover them. In colder areas, a thin layer of mulch after the ground cools helps buffer winter temperature swings without holding too much moisture around the bulbs.

Blueberry Lemonade Bulb Mix Spacing

Plant Milena and Polar Hunter daffodils about 5 to 6 inches deep and 4 to 6 inches apart, then plant the muscari 2 to 3 inches deep and 2 to 3 inches apart in small pockets near the front. For containers, use a pot at least 14 to 16 inches wide with drainage holes, placing daffodils in the lower layer and muscari nearer the top and outer edge. Keep planted pots outdoors or in a cold, sheltered spot through winter, with soil just lightly moist rather than wet.

Companion Planting

For containers, add alyssum around the rim after shoots emerge for a low white edge that suits the blue and yellow palette. In beds, primrose works well in part sun where spring soil stays evenly moist, and barrenwort is useful nearby under shrubs where bulbs can rise before the shade deepens. For sunnier, well-drained edges, sea thrift makes a compact later-season partner that will not overwhelm the bulb foliage as it finishes.
