Casa Blanca Oriental Lily Bulbs showcase pure white, fragrant summer flowers with the formal look of a florist stem and the stamina of a garden perennial. Lilium 'Casa Blanca' produces large, outward-facing blooms with reflexed petals, reddish-brown anthers, and a sweet scent that carries well on warm evenings. The plants typically reach 3 to 4 feet tall, making them tall enough for the middle or back of a border without overwhelming nearby perennials. Our garden designer recommends this lily for moon gardens and evening patios, where the white flowers stay visible after darker colors fade into the background.
This Oriental lily is often treated as the standard for white lilies because of its flower size, fragrance, and usefulness as a cut flower. It blooms in mid to late summer, after many early-season perennials have slowed, giving the garden a fresh white accent during hotter weeks. The sturdy stems may need support in windy sites or in part shade, especially once the buds gain weight. Use Casa Blanca Oriental Lily Bulbs in cutting gardens, white-themed borders, large containers, and near porches or bedroom windows where the fragrance can be enjoyed.
Casa Blanca Oriental Lily Bulbs Care
Plant Casa Blanca Oriental Lily Bulbs in full sun to partial shade, with afternoon shade helpful in hot summer regions. Choose fertile, well-drained soil with steady moisture, such as compost-amended loam or raised beds where clay drains slowly. A slightly acidic to neutral soil pH, about 6.0 to 7.0, is ideal for Oriental lilies.
Newly planted bulbs should be watered deeply after planting so the soil settles around the scales. During active growth, check moisture below the surface rather than judging by the top crust; dry soil during bud formation can shorten stems and reduce flower size. Feed as shoots emerge with a balanced slow-release fertilizer, then add compost or a light organic top-dressing after bloom if the soil is lean. A 2-inch mulch layer keeps the root zone cooler while the stems grow into the sun.
Cut stems for arrangements when the first bud begins to loosen, leaving enough leaves on the plant to rebuild the bulb. After flowering, remove faded blooms but keep the stems standing until they yellow naturally. Remove the anthers indoors to prevent pollen stains, and keep true lilies away from cats.
Casa Blanca Oriental Lily Bulbs Spacing
Plant Casa Blanca Oriental Lily Bulbs 4 to 6 inches deep and 8 to 12 inches apart, with the pointed end facing up. For containers, use a deep pot at least 16 to 18 inches wide with drainage holes, and plant one to three bulbs depending on pot size. Container-grown lilies need steady moisture during bud development and winter protection in colder zones.
For container companions, use lobelia, wishbone flowers, or coleus to shade the soil surface without crowding the lily stems. In garden beds, Japanese forest grass makes a graceful lower companion in part shade, while bee balm suits sunnier sites with even moisture and supports pollinator activity nearby. Ferns work well at the edge of filtered-light plantings, giving the white flowers a calm green setting and helping keep the lower soil cooler.
