Potluck Planting Berry Bouquet Mix offers a rich berry palette with round purple allium flowers rising above jewel-toned tulips. This fall-planted mix includes Allium aflatunense 'Purple Sensation', Tulipa 'Purple Flag', Tulipa 'Don Quichotte', Tulipa 'Pays Bas', and Tulipa 'Jackpot' for purple, rose, maroon, cream, and white contrast. The tulips supply the mid-spring color, then Purple Sensation allium carries the display into late spring with globe-shaped blooms on 20- to 30-inch stems. Our garden designers like this mix near silver or blue-green foliage because the darker flowers look richer against cooler leaves.

Triumph tulips are valued for sturdy stems and classic cup-shaped flowers, which makes them useful for both garden display and cutting. Purple Sensation allium is deer resistant, long lasting, and usually left alone by rodents, mice, and chipmunks. Use this mix in sunny borders, cutting gardens, large porch containers, or grouped along a walkway where the allium spheres can hover above the tulip layer.

Potluck Planting Berry Bouquet Mix Care

Plant Potluck Planting Berry Bouquet Mix in full sun to partial shade, with full sun supporting the strongest tulip stems and best allium performance. Use loose, well-drained soil; sandy loam or compost-amended garden soil is ideal. A slightly acidic to neutral pH, about 6.0 to 7.0, is suitable for this tulip and allium planting.

Water thoroughly after fall planting so the bulbs settle into the soil before winter. In spring, water during dry periods while stems and leaves are active, then allow the bed to dry more as the bulbs move into summer dormancy. Feed at planting with a bulb fertilizer placed below the root zone or top-dressed according to the label. In lean soil, a light spring top-dressing as shoots emerge can support stronger flowering without overfeeding.

Remove spent tulip flowers before seed pods form, but keep the foliage until it yellows naturally. Allium flower heads can be cut for bouquets, removed after bloom, or left standing for dried structure. Tulips in this mix are best treated as fresh seasonal color in many gardens, while the alliums may return for multiple years in well-drained soil.

Potluck Planting Berry Bouquet Mix Spacing

Plant tulip bulbs about 6 to 8 inches deep and 4 to 6 inches apart, with the pointed end facing up. Plant Purple Sensation allium bulbs about 4 to 6 inches deep and 6 to 8 inches apart so the flower heads have room to show above the tulips. For containers, use a pot at least 14 to 16 inches wide with drainage holes. Set tulips lower in the mix, and place alliums where their stems can rise without leaning into foot traffic.

For container companions, use vinca, calibrachoa, or petunias after bulb foliage begins to fade, since they enjoy sun and help keep the pot attractive into summer. In garden beds, peonies are a smart companion because their expanding foliage covers allium leaves as they decline. Use yarrow, sea thrift, and artemisia for a silvery, sun-loving edge and catmint for fine texture beside the darker tulips.
