Potluck Planting Rainbow Bouquet Mix packs a full spring color sequence into one easy fall-planted bulb collection. This mix includes Tulipa 'Seadov', Narcissus 'Tete-a-Tete', Iris 'Harmony', Crocus tommasinianus 'Ruby Giant', and Muscari 'Baby's Breath' for red, yellow, purple, and blue flowers at different heights. The earliest crocus and dwarf iris start the display low to the ground, followed by muscari, miniature daffodils, and sturdy red tulips. This is a stellar mix for small beds because every bulb contributes a distinct color or shape.
This collection is built around hardy spring bulbs that fit containers, border fronts, and clustered plantings near walkways. Tete-a-Tete daffodil is a compact, early yellow bloomer that naturalizes well and is usually avoided by deer and rabbits. Ruby Giant crocus and Harmony dwarf iris flower early, giving the planting a welcome lift before many perennials wake up. Seadov tulip finishes the mix with deep red mid-spring flowers on shorter, wind-friendly stems.
Potluck Planting Rainbow Bouquet Mix Care
Plant Potluck Planting Rainbow Bouquet Mix in full sun to partial shade, with the best flowering in at least 6 hours of sun. Use well-drained soil that stays moderately moist during fall rooting and spring growth, then dries more during summer dormancy. A neutral to slightly acidic soil pH, about 6.0 to 7.0, is ideal for this bulb mix.
Water the planting area thoroughly after bulbs go in so soil settles around each bulb. During spring growth, water only when rainfall is limited and the soil dries below the surface, since standing water can rot bulbs. Feed at planting with a bulb fertilizer, then top-dress lightly in early spring as shoots emerge if soil is lean or the bulbs are being grown for repeat bloom.
Deadhead spent tulip and daffodil flowers after bloom, but leave the stems and leaves to age naturally. Crocus, iris, muscari, and daffodil foliage should stay until it yellows so the bulbs and corms can rebuild for the following year. Divide crowded clumps in late summer or early fall if flowering declines after several seasons.
Potluck Planting Rainbow Bouquet Mix Spacing
Plant the larger tulip and daffodil bulbs about 6 inches deep and 4 to 6 inches apart. Set dwarf iris and crocus about 3 to 4 inches deep, with muscari roughly 3 to 5 inches deep depending on bulb size. For containers, use a pot at least 12 inches wide with drainage holes, placing larger bulbs lower and smaller bulbs closer to the surface for a layered spring bouquet.
For container companions, use nemesia, snapdragons, or alyssum to add cool-season flowers above the bulb planting without heavy root pressure. In garden beds, pair this mix with coral bells for foliage color after the bulbs finish, or use phlox nearby to continue the spring display as bulb foliage fades. Balloon flower is a good later-season perennial companion because it emerges after the bulb show and helps cover ripening leaves without taking over the planting.
