Potluck Tutti Frutti Punch Bulb Mix
Bring a sweep of pinks and purples to your garden with the Potluck Tutti Frutti Punch Bulb Mix. This 28-bulb collection combines tall, textured spikes, sweetly scented freesias, and classic Asiatic lilies for a layered summer display that adds scent, height, and lots of personality to beds, borders, or containers.
What’s in the Mix
- 15 Kobold Liatris spicata (upright, spiky texture)
- 10 Lilac Freesias (fragrant, delicate blooms)
- 3 Montreux Asiatic Lilies (bold, long-lasting flowers)
Highlights
- Coordinated color palette: Purples and pinks that layer well together for a cohesive look.
- Scented accents: Freesias bring a sweet fragrance that draws pollinators and delights the nose.
- Flexible use: Equally suited to borders, mixed beds, or grouped in containers.
- Seasonal interest: Staggered bloom habits give a longer window of flowers and texture.
Planting Guide
When to Plant
Plant in spring after the last hard frost for reliable summer blooms.
Where to Plant
Pick a sunny to partly sunny spot with well-draining soil. These bulbs don’t like to sit in waterlogged ground.
How to Plant
- Prepare the soil by loosening it and working in some compost or bulb fertilizer.
- Plant bulbs with the pointed end up; depth depends on bulb size (generally 2–3 times the bulb height).
- Space bulbs so they have room to grow but are close enough to create a full look — group by type or mix them for a randomized planting.
- Water well after planting to settle the soil and kick-start root growth.
Ongoing Care
- Watering: Keep soil slightly moist after planting and while shoots are active; reduce watering once foliage dies back.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced bulb fertilizer when shoots appear in spring to support flowering.
- Deadheading: Remove spent blooms to tidy the display and redirect energy.
- Post-bloom: Let foliage yellow and wither naturally — do not cut leaves prematurely, as the bulb needs that foliage to store energy for next year.
In Containers
This mix works beautifully in pots. Use a container with good drainage and a rich potting mix. Plant bulbs slightly closer than you would in the ground for a fuller effect, keep the soil evenly moist while actively growing, and place the pot in a sunny spot. You can also force some of the bulbs indoors for early blooms.
FAQs
1. What is the Potluck Tutti Frutti Punch Bulb Mix?
It’s a curated collection of 28 bulbs — Kobold Liatris, Lilac Freesias, and Montreux Asiatic Lilies — chosen to create a coordinated pink-and-purple summer garden with height, scent, and long-lasting flowers.
2. When and where should I plant these bulbs?
Plant them in spring after frost danger has passed. Choose well-draining soil and a spot that gets at least part sun; full sun is ideal for the best flowering.
3. How should I care for them after planting?
Water thoroughly at planting, keep soil slightly moist while they establish, feed with bulb fertilizer when shoots appear, and allow foliage to die back naturally after blooming.
4. Can I grow this mix in pots or indoors?
Yes — they’re container-friendly. Use a pot with drainage, plant bulbs close (but not touching), and place the container in a sunny location. Freesias can be forced indoors for earlier blooms if desired.
5. How many bulbs are included?
The mix contains 28 bulbs total: 15 Kobold Liatris, 10 Lilac Freesias, and 3 Montreux Asiatic Lilies — enough for a generous grouped planting or several smaller pots.
