Stargazer Oriental Lily Bulbs perfume the midsummer garden with large pink flowers that are impossible to overlook. Lilium 'Stargazer' produces outward-facing blooms with deep fuchsia centers, pale pink edges, white margins, and darker speckles. The flowers can reach 6 to 8 inches across on 24- to 36-inch stems, giving borders and bouquets a dramatic focal point. We use it where fragrance can drift across a patio or cutting bed.
Oriental lilies are true lilies, known for their showy flowers, strong scent, and excellent vase life. Stargazer blooms after many early summer perennials have peaked, helping extend color into midseason. The bulbs are perennial in zones 3 to 9 and can naturalize slowly where drainage is good and stems are left to feed the bulb after bloom. Use these lilies in cutting gardens, sunny perennial borders, large containers, or near outdoor seating where their fragrance can be enjoyed.
Stargazer Oriental Lily Bulbs Care
Plant Stargazer Oriental Lily Bulbs in full sun to partial shade, with part-day shade useful in hotter climates. Choose well-drained soil, since lily bulbs can rot in soil that stays wet. A slightly acidic to neutral soil pH, about 6.0 to 7.0, is suitable for strong root growth and flowering.
Water after planting to settle soil around the bulbs. Afterward, keep the root zone moderately moist during active growth. Established plants appreciate deep watering during dry spells, especially while buds are swelling. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring as new shoots appear, following the label rate. A light mulch helps keep the root zone cooler while the upper stems receive sun.
Cut flowers when the first bud begins to open, leaving plenty of stem and leaves on the plant. After flowering, remove spent blooms but allow the foliage to yellow naturally before cutting stems down. Oriental lily pollen can stain fabric, so remove anthers from cut flowers before arranging indoors.
Stargazer Oriental Lily Bulbs Spacing
Plant Stargazer Oriental Lily Bulbs 4 to 6 inches deep and 8 to 12 inches apart, with the pointed end facing up and the root side down. For containers, use a deep pot at least 14 to 16 inches wide with drainage holes, leaving soil below the bulbs for root development. Container lilies are best moved into the garden after their first season if you want stronger perennial return.
For container companions, use bacopa, calibrachoa, or fan flower around the edge to cover the pot surface while keeping the lily stems open. In garden beds, phlox and speedwell make good nearby partners because they enjoy sun, well-drained soil, and midseason bloom timing. Coral bells can help shade the lower root zone in part-sun plantings, while yarrow offers a drought-tolerant contrast once the lilies finish.
